Day-Date 18038 - 2 dial questions
This watch is a 18038, with serial 595xxx. It’s listed as a 1978 (depending on which chart is used, that serial # is somewhere 1978-83).
First, when were these Jubilee dials (with the ROLEXROLEXROLEX all-over pattern) first offered? I’m not certain, but I thought they first came out in 1985, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the DJ. Second, was this type of Arabic-index dial offered in or before 1983 (with or without the Jubilee pattern)? My slight instinct is that it was not, ... but I don’t trust my instincts. . . |

Clay here is a snap shot of Rolex dial catalog showing this dial was available for the 18038 so would assume it was introduced sometime between 1977ish and 1982ish.
