2-tone Steel and 18K Gold Submariner
For those who are looking to get a nice Rolex and don't have a relationship with the AD, just wanted to share my experience -
I was able to land a 2-tone Steel and 18K Gold Submariner (Black Dial) in exactly 3 weeks after visiting an AD for the first time. Picked the watch this past weekend. Explained to him what I wanted and why I wanted it (was blessed with my first child this year, so wanted her birth year watch) and he was nice enough to put my name on the list. And I got a call exactly 3 weeks after. Now I plan to put my name down for a Daytona as well All I am saying is that there is hope, just go and have a conversation and explain your reasoning to get that watch. This was the 3rd AD i reached out to but the first two didnt even bother to talk to me properly and tried to steer me towards buying something else first. |

Congrats! On the new child and the new piece. Your perseverance won the day. But it is also about being in the right place at the right time .

My previous AD was in London (bought a Polar Explorer II and an Omega) and I am trying to establish a relationship with an AD here in the Bay Area. I might have lucked out a bit - I think I can attribute it to my little girl |

Is the 2 tone black highly in demand? Most people want the bluesy-with good reason.

OP i echo your story picked mine up in under 2 weeks from asking about but I did have an existing relationship with the AD. This one is easier to get but I'm not one that is deterred by this i genuinely wanted the watch.

not with good reason, most go for the "in your face screaming" option, not always a good thing or for everyone. Personally I was glad it was basically a click and collect transaction for me for the black TT.

Nonsense. There are likely far more black TT Sub Dates around than the blue one.

I mean everyone has their own taste. Once I saw the 2 tone with black dial, it was just a no-brainer for me. Blue just seems too loud for me personally but I am sure people love that for their own reasons.

Congrats! Might I ask which were the first two ADs you reached out to who were not helpful and the third that came through? I'm also in the bay area

Thanks! The first 2 ADs were Heller Jewelers in San Ramon and Shreve in Palo Alto. Then I started looking a little further away and went to Fourtane in Carmel-by-the-Sea. That's where it clicked! It's a couple of hours drive one way but turned out to be worth it for me.

Why do you think the 2-tone is easier to get and not in demand? May be I already have a SS Polar Explorer II, so I was OK with 2-tone Sub. But, 2-tone with Black dial is such a beautiful watch, I couldnt take my eyes off of it.

TT is always the least popular and has polarizing views on it. Probably a 80s thing. Works well for me because I don't mind them at all.

I actually like the black TT Sub more than Bluesy. I actually see more Blue TT Subs than the black ones. The Bluesy has a car salesman reputation I don't feel comfortable with.

Frankly, the black sub has a "$200 Seiko look-alike reputation" that a ton of us don't feel comfortable with.

Go try both on you’ll then understand why there are different views on the watch. You clearly haven’t based on your comment. Also look at the people stating they prefer one strongly over the other. This is because there is a decent difference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
