Gold Rolex

I have been looking at a gold (not two tone) Rolex - and have never thought about this until just now as I have just always assumed they really were all real gold, but looking now are they really all gold (either rose or yellow)? - surely thats a lot of gold, i.e. the entire case and the bracelet if being solid gold would I imagine be much more expensive than the £30K or so for the watches that I am looking at - and that's the used inflated prices.

Are they really all solid gold or are they actually some other metal then plated?

Yes, Rolex gold watches are made of 18k gold.

In all solid precious metal Rolex watches the only parts that are not 18kt gold/or 950 platinum, are the movement, crystal, and in some models the dial, and watch cases might be not as solid as you think.

After reading the run on sentence written by the OP, I can't help but think there are teachers out, somewhere, who felt a disturbance in the Force.

Hello,

Unless I'm working something out incorrectly, the value of the gold contained in a gold Rolex is far, far below the retail price of the watch itself (which is what you'd expect for Rolex to make money on it).

For example, take a 36mm yellow gold Day-Date. From some quick research, these weigh approximately 174 grammes. Now, the current gold price here in the UK right now as I type this is £42.17/g. If you multiply that up, the entire value of all the gold contained in a yellow gold Day-Date on a President bracelet would be £7,337.58. On the other hand, the MSRP of the "basic" Day-Date on a President bracelet with a Champagne dial is £26,650, a difference of £19,312.42. Quite a difference there then, but again, that's what you'd expect.

Hope this helps to clear things up !

You’re forgetting the price of the actual watch itself in your calculations lol
You’re not just buying gold.

Yeah, you get a PM Rolex as well as a 174g of gold.

Luxury has never been about the value of the raw materials.
Image buying a stainless watch with a scrap value of 50 cent of it’s weight in steel.

yes, Rolex watches are made of real gold. Rolex does not use any “fake gold”, but instead, they only use 18K gold, and make their own alloys in-house in their own foundries.

Have some patience. This is a International forum where English might not be their first or even second language. I can’t believe this has to be said.

Interesting photo Padi. Save gold volume by creating voids within the case.

Yes gold being a expensive commodity any saving keeps costs down, but like most all precious metal watches, or so called designer goods today, you pay 25% for the product and 75% for the name.

Was thinking the same thing. I know if I were to try and write in Japanese, it would be pretty rough. Not for lack of trying. 2nd languages are just tough.

Not to pile on, but my thought was the reply was just unnecessarily critical. The poster's English grammar is much better than my Malay.

Well said and the truth. Show a little compassion, we get enough cynicism on this forum as it is.

I believe there is just under 7k worth of gold in the day date and it sells for almost 37k.
They are making money hand over fist in Geneva and the AD make no mistake about it.

People are rude sometimes.

How many in US speak two languages fluently? 20%, Europe 60%
go figure…
