I'm curious if anyone has a recommendation to source authentic parts. I've got my father's sub - 16613. At some point he replaced the dial with a very nice grey dial with sapphire hour markers, but I want to look at restoring it to the original blue dial which he lost. Finding authentic parts are tricky, especially dials, so I'm curious if anyone has a recommendation. Most of what I can find is on ebay, which makes me nervous. Thanks for the help.

What about rolex directly? You will have to have the watched service though I presume...

Rolex is an exchange only. If he sends in the watch with an aftermarket dial, or a dial not original to that watch, Rolex will keep the dial, and install a replacement dial. That is only with a full service.

Stay away from fleecebay. It is at best a minefield.

Would it be possible to see pictures of the watch?

Ive read the following:

(The ref. 1680x family lasted for only around four years, superseded in 1988 by the ref. 1661x range, including the two-tone reference 16613. The main reason for the change was so that Rolex could bring in the upgraded Caliber 3135, recognized today as one of the finest mass-produced calibers ever made and one that would stay powering the Rolex Submariner Date for more than three decades.)

So it would be worth trying to obtain the correct Hands & Dial and I have a feeling that the forum will be able to help you out. let us know how you get on, All the best "H"

The OPs dial is a correct factory made Serti/Sultan dial for the 16613

OP, are you sure the watch originally came with a blue dial and not this sultan dial from Rolex?

A quick Google search for 16613 sultan or serti dial and you will see hundreds of results

Yeah, op, your watch is most likely original and never came with the blue dial. Don’t mess that one up by changing dials. Enjoy it in memory of your pops and if you want a 16613lb then spring for one (they’re quite accessible and easily sourced) and then you have two great watches!!

Thanks everyone for the feedback. As I've searched for dials, I figured out its actually something quite unique. I just assumed it was an aftermarket dial, as my father had a tendency to do this with other watches - always wanting a unique kind of look. Thanks again.
