Seeking advice for this 5513 Submariner

Hello,

I recently found interest in servicing this Submariner. I believe it's from the late 60s. It still runs. No box or papers. I understand Rolex will automatically replace the crystal, but what are your opinions on having the bezel insert and hands replaced? I'm fine with having just those items replaced, and leaving everything as is. Is there anything else I should take into consideration?

I should expect to be charged anywhere from $1200-$1500. Would that be a realistic expectation? I live in southern Cali if that matters. Thank you.

The real experts will be along soon to comment more on your watch. I wouldn't send this to a RSC. I would recommend LA Watch Works in Pasadena as a great place to seek servicing for vintage watches. They would be able to repair the lume on the hands or find appropriate replacements.

You could try polishing the crystal with Polywatch (few bucks online). That could take care of the crystal, and will also get a better look at the dial (which appears to be pretty good). The hands could be fixed or swapped as stated above. Definitely don’t send to RSC. Vintage watchmaker is the way to go.

Another point - I actually think the hands look good. You could make the argument to keep as is. And the insert is incredible - great fat font.

Don't replace anything with new service parts. Go slow and be conservative. The original parts are expensive and add a tremendous amount of value to the watch. Also, the watch will look terrible with a brand new insert and hands. Crystal can be polished, long-5 insert is fine (replace the tritium pearl if you choose), the minute hand can be re-lumed very nicely.

That’s going to look great once you have some sympathetic restoration work done to it!

For god's sake, don't. It will tank the value and history of the watch.

This. They'll restore it sympathetically and retain its value.

amazing!

long 5 insert, original matte dial and hands. Definitely go independent as others have suggested.

DO NOT SEND TO ROLEX. LAWW is the logical choice here.

Thanks for the responses. I'll take everything into consideration here and pay a visit to LAWW sometime soon, and I'll post updated pics if possible.
