Rolex 5513 - 1967

Afternoon all.

Looking for opinions on this Rolex 5513 from 1967 on sale near me. Appears competitively priced and comes with box/papers.

Seller says it has service dial, hands and bezel. Is this one to steer clear of although believe common practice for Rolex to change parts at service.

Are the dial, hands and bezel a reason to move on from this?

Price is under £9k.

Thanks for any help.

Looks like service, dial, insert and hands...I would run away at that price.

It depends what you're looking for really.

A '67 should have a matte dial (there may have even been some gilt dials around that year too - I haven't actually checked and I can't remember). It would also have had a 'rivet' bracelet too - see the photo of my 'beater' below. I just happen to be wearing it right now, so, took a quick snap to give you an idea.

That watch has also had a few 'polishes' - but it looks fine as a wearable 5513 in my opinion (others' opinions may (will) differ).

But, if you want a nice clean watch to wear - and you're not too worried about it being 'collectible', then go for it. It appears to be priced quite keenly (for a dealer anyway) and box/papers (assuming they're correct) are a bonus.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

I would just add... around £9k would probably get you a nice 14060, that would be 'correct' - and not look too dissimilar to the 5513 you posted.

Just a thought.

You have to study images of a 5513 with the original parts. The orig dial is very captivating, same for the bezel. It’s kind of like looking at a jag xke with a Chevy 350 in it

Great analogy.

There is a price at which one might buy an overpolished 5513 with service parts, but it's not £$9k IMO.

its hard to get in the sub game for £9k........I think the service dial is attractive, though I have no idea if the price is right.

I would keep your powder dry until you find a nicer example.

I would pass, you could get an all original great condition 1980s 5513 for close (albeit a bit more) to that price. 14060 would be same price or perhaps even cheaper, as was mentioned above.

Very good points above, but I'll add .... that poor case! Look at the top right lug with that protruding spring bar, and the rest of the lugs for that matter.

Forget all discussion about service parts and correctness, that case is shot and should be an immediate deal-breaker, IMHO, especially at that price in the U.K., which converts to about $12500.

This is a great example of why good-condition Subs, and all vintage sports Rolexes really, continue to increase in price. Many mediocre examples available, and very few great/excellent/collector-grade pieces out there.

I'm also currently in the market for a 5513 and starting to learn about the model.
From what I've found there are plenty of £9000 to £11000 price range models available.
Many have service parts but it's the dial that I'm most concerned about, that has to be original.
There are some original dial, insert, bracelets etc available, probably the cases aren't the best but as long as they have reasonable lugs and guards that's ok in my opinion at this lower end of the price bracket
