DayDate: I assume the dial on this DD is genuine Rolex?
I decided that I need, oh yes "need" is the word , to add an all-YG watch to my collection. And a DD is my choice.
Below is a pic of a not-so-common YG 18238 DD with white shell dial and emerald indices. It's quite different looking, for a DD. And I being a contrarian, kind of like the Rolex-colored emerald green indices and simple white dial. YG alone is definitely blingy, but the emeralds and shell put this DD over the top. It's not everyone's cup of tea, I admit. Do you Rolex experts know whether these dials were made by Rolex at one time? So they are not aftermarket? Thanks for your input. Ron Pic is borrowed from sales site. [IMG][/IMG] |

No idea really, but the way the emeralds are set seems to be from a later date.
Compare with the diamond set on my 18238

I have never seen this D-D with emerald green indices and simple white dial (look like MOP) before. It might be after market dial, I guess.

My gut tells me the MoP/shell dial is a little bland… just doesn’t strike me as something Rolex would put in a DD. Or any model.

I am the OP. I found a few more like this one online. In addition, I found a similar one with sapphires instead of emeralds. In the pics, that one looked bland compared to the green.
The shell (MOP) dials are used in many DJs. And what is interesting about this emerald dial is the gems are all the same size and the dial has symmetry . The oblong baguets at 6 and 9 only on diamond-dial DDs create a different look. |

I didn’t say they don’t use MoP, obviously they do in many models. What I said is the MoP Rolex use, that I’ve seen at least (and I’ve seen more than a few), are more detailed, higher quality appearing and have more interesting coloring than just stark white like this one is. IMO I don’t think this MoP dial would make the cut for Rolex to actually put on a watch as a factory dial.

The closest DD dial I see is S291, but not quite the same.
