Clearly a local shop for local people (we'll have no trouble here).

Many ADs just don’t care. I don’t know if it’s that they have so much business or they are just poor business people. I was on a business trip recently and called an AD in the city to inquire about a few pieces I wouldn’t mind seeing and would probably have bought one. I was told unless I had a driver’s license from that state, they would not sell me a watch. Said it was Rolex policy. Yeah, whatever.

I had this in the UK when I was ringing around AD's trying to pick up a Sub. Said it's Rolex policy bit too sell to customers from a different county! However, I ended up getting mine from a branch of a large chain of AD's 250 miles away from my home with no problems so they're not all sticking to the 'policy'! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Think I’ll call with a fake Japanese accent and run through every watch combo Rolex make. That should take a few hours.
On a serious note the shortage of sports models is leading to deteriorating relationships between AD’s and customers. Not good at all for Rolex. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It can’t be nice for ADs to have almost every conversation about sports model availability. I can almost understand why they are slightly frosty with the non locals calling them on a a daily basis asking about steel ceramic Daytona’s lol The knock on effect is the prime preowned stock is expensive. |

Frankly I think some ADs make up the 'policy' as they go along......it's just whatever suits at the time!

Yorkshire - generally a serious lot especially when the talk is about money.
Where lunch is called dinner and dinner is called tea. Locals are well known for having strong opinions whether you want to hear them or not. ...and lastly the most popular local phrase - - Ow much?! None of the above are offensive to a Yorkshire man. |

I love their put downs. I once heard a man in a pub say to another, “ what’s up with thee face. It looks like someone has knitted it and dropped a stitch “.

I was in (Kingston-upon) Hull yesterday as I wanted to check out Blowers Jewellers. I’m always browsing their website but never actually paid them a visit. I tried on a few pieces I liked, and their prices were reasonable, but they wouldn’t negotiate much on price. I visited them, and Berry’s the local Omega AD and both were extremely tight on security with double security doors at Blowers. I looked at a Speedmaster Moon Watch at Berrys and I commented that it was manual wind. The 2 older ladies insisted it wasn’t and had a 48 hour power reserve. I was sure it didn’t but they insisted every Omega was automatic and there was no such thing as Manual Wind. Even basic questions they had to go and look up books etc, and still seemed to give wrong information. The very centre of Hull was not bad in bits but we drove through some horrific areas, POLSKI shops, entire boarded up streets etc. There were lots of “undesirables” in the centre (clearly on drink and drugs) who thought nothing about shouting abuse, screaming and swearing. I actually felt pretty uneasy with my wife and 6 year old, who kept asking what they were all shouting about. At one point I heard shouting about “you’re not a local son” accompanied by some swearing. I must have looked so uneasy lol. I even felt vulnerable with my iPhone out, although I had a jacket on so my watch wasn’t on display. **before I get the comments, I’m from Glasgow so I’m not a stranger to a big busy city centre, deprivation or some rowdy locals. I’ve travelled in many towns and cities across the UK and worldwide. However I felt pretty uneasy in Hull. No offence intended by the above. |

Off topic a bit...
I used to visit Hull - or more correctly, Kingston upon Hull - on a regular basis (once or twice a week) a few years back and, whilst the locals defend it vociferously, I never really liked the place. There are some magnificent civic buildings as Hull was once an extremely prosperous city but, like a lot of places around the globe, as industries change or move, it has declined to a point where the only way is up. I do hope the City of Culture year improves the place, I really do. |

I was in Leeds for 3 years, before moving on to Hull for a little bit over a year. Its a much smaller place and not much in terms of retail, but never did feel unsafe :-)

Fair chance it's gone after a year and a half. Also gone are all those in the US saying, "are they that rare," "glad I live in the US," etc.
