So Jack Nicklaus and Red Adair did their things wearing old Day Dates, yet almost nobody today considers it to be a proper "sports watch" or manly "tool watch" because it's too dressy, too small, and too shiny to adequately signal "man-of-action-ness" in modern times.

Hmmmm. I'm liking my vintage, early-60's 1803 more and more after seeing this.

Great video. JN is a class act.

Aside from being softer then SS, there is no reason why a DD can't take what that particular watch has gone through. This video has really given me food for thought on the multiple watch program I have been on. I'm really on the verge of becoming a one watch guy after listening to Jack Nicklaus live through so many great memories with one watch on his wrist for 50 years....

That was great! It's cool to see every picture of him wearing the exact same watch.

As a non golfer, it was a great story ! I like many of Hodinkee's interviews, but seem to like the non-professional collectors the best ....... just every day individuals that like watches.

Great and thanks for sharing. Wearing the same style 18238 now - love the monochromatic look of YG with chaimpaign dial and gold stick hands with micro lum dots. For me, there is always something sporty about the oyster case, even if the DD is generally considered a dress watch.

I was quite impressed that someone so famous for wearing a Rolex only has had one.

This episode was just great. And that gilt chapter ring sub at the end of the introduction is giving me nightmares.

No sponsorship deal it appears, just likes the watch and wears it. Whilst he probably earned peanuts in comparison to the players of today he is no doubt financially very comfortable but comes from a generation of men that practiced a level of humility and even austerity that is less usual today, though I still now many one watch people. I'm not saying there is a need to be a one watch man but there is still a lesson or two here. One lesson might be that the DD is the one watch that does it all!

Loved this! I’m a one watch gal myself and I think it’s so cool that he’s created decades of memories wearing the same special watch!

This is proof that the DD is no sissy watch. I dont think there is a tougher 18K watch made
