Rolex Warranty Questions
My watch is six months old and running 10-20+ seconds per day fast. I do find it quite annoying and am going to send it in for a regulation. My first questions is does Rolex pay for shipping to an RSC or am I responsible for that? Second, will they polish the watch to like new condition when they send it back? I ask this because I am debating wearing the watch until it is a month or two from the warranty expiring, sending it into RSC for regulation, and having them send me back a well regulated watch that is polished like new (I'm assuming I will accumulate a few scratches over the course of the next year and a half). Oppinions and input is appreciated!!

You're responsible for all shipping costs and they'll do EXACTLY what you ask - no more no less so be VERY specific about what you want.

google and find a watchmaker in your area. I had this same problem with my DJ it was running 25 sec fast per day and I found a guy nearby that made the adjustment for free in about 5 minutes...

I have the same problem. It's my understanding that if your watch is still under the original wty an AD won't open it. It has to go to Rolex. If you bought from an AD they can ship it to Rolex for you. I would think they would pay for shipping but I need to ask that question.
My watch is less than a year old and running fast like yours. I've been reluctant to let it go but need to get it fixed. |

Negative. My 16610LV is still under warranty and I'm not going to void it. Rathe have Rolex only touch my watch during the warranty period. Actually, I don't trust any watchmaker outside of Rolex unless it is Bob Ridley. Some may disagree, but too many shady cats stealing authentic Rolex parts and screwing people over.

If its under warranty, that would be the biggest mistake you could make. Thats exactly what Rolex considers to be a third-party intervention that voids your warranty

you have options.
have your AD send the watch in and it may be shipped free. second, have a local watch maker check for magnetization. I've got several watches that got magnetized and sent to Rolex and the service paper stated they were magnetized. but a local watchmaker can demagnetize it for you in literally seconds and many would do it for free. I know there are discussions on how a watch should run after magenetization. it depends on how magnetized a watch is and my experiences are if your watch suddenly runs fast, it might be magnetized. get a compass and if it moves the needle then that might be the cause. I bought a demagnetizer and compass since my wife seems to get her 3 watches magnetized and so far it's worked well and got them back to COSC after demagnitizing them.

Regarding magnitization, the watch has the hairspring, I don't think it can be magnetized...

I contacted my AD. They will ship to Rolex no charge. They cautioned me that Rolex closes for a couple of weeks this time of year so I'd be without my watch for several week if it gets sent in now.

If you let your AD know that you're dissatisfied with the situation just 6 month into ownership - a wise one will get to RSC for you. S/he wants you as a customer for future Rolex sales.
That's my 2¢

Yup, have your AD send it in after the Holidays... As for the polishing NO Rolex will not polish the watch and they will also advise against it as it is so new

Rolex has used a non-magnetic FAR Nivarox hairspring for years; the Parachrom is also non-magnetic.. But there are plenty of other parts, such as the pallet and escapement, or even mainspring parts that can become magnetized and have an affect on the timing of a watch...

Interesting info guys, I appreciate the info. I have nothing but very light surface scratches on the watch as is, I don't expect (knock on wood) anything deep. Would most of you have the light scratches/swirls polished or would you leave them alone altogether? I ask because my thought is to send the watch in towards the end of the warranty and ask/pay for a polish. And I didn't purchase from an AD, I bought from a trusted TRF seller so I guess the shipping will be on me

Also be advised that when you send your watch to Rolex USA you cannot use any clear packing tape at all or Rolex will refuse to accept the package. You must use brown paper tape only. Clear tape is too easy to tamper with.

Rolex figures that a case and bracelet are good for about 5 or 6 refinishes before too much metal is removed to do it any more, so refinishing it unnecessarily is reducing the expected life of your watch...
