Cosmograph Daytona Ceramic 116500LN - SHORT REVIEW

Cosmograph Daytona Ceramic 116500LN - Short Review (with some new pics in different lighting and situations)

Well, I have now had the much-in-demand Daytona for little over a week and thought that I would give my humble brief review of the timepiece:
  • My wait list time was about 9 months so I am still in the honeymoon phase
  • This is my first Daytona (although I have other chronographs - Omega Speedmaster Professional and CK2998LE)

    Pros:
  • This is my most "dress-like" watch. The case is super svelte however the bracelet remains the ubiquitous Oyster bracelet with the Easy Link extension
  • I love the 70+ hour power reserve and I can set it down for the weekend and still pick it up on Monday AM with it still running
  • I love that there is no date. Very clean. Certainly makes it easy to re-set watch if it runs out of power during, whenever I put it in rotation with other watches (note: I don't use watch winders)
  • Has not left my wrist!
  • Has this great vintage look - its a mix between 6263 (black bezel) and 16520 Zenith (sub dials)
  • Black ceramic bezel is stunning
  • There is a certain mystique surrounding this watch
  • Accuracy is +19 over 9 days. This translates to a tad over +2 sec per day. Its good enough for me!!
  • Function of the chronograph is super smooth esp. the pushers
  • Love the white and black contrast on the dial and bezel - very sharp
  • Quite legible (but compared to my Speedmaster Professional it is not as good)
  • This is my grail that I've wanted forever!
  • Great companion piece to my other watches

    Cons:
  • The watch feels delicate especially when compared to SD4K (but I know it is a Rolex and it is built tough as nails)
  • Wish it had Glidelock (I think Rolex should use Glidelock on ALL their bracelets)
  • Lume is nice blue but markers are a bit small/narrow (compared to SD4K)
  • Wish some kind of lume at 12 marker (not sure what though)
  • Wish it was NOT a PCL bracelet
  • Unscrewing chrono pushers to use the chrono is a bit of a pain. Rolex needs to fix this; Isn't there an easier way to achieve waterproofness
  • Asymmetrical lugs a tiny bit weird but you soon forget about it

Great watch great pics

If the screw in pushers bother you leave them unscrewed
They are not for waterproofing but not to accidentally hit and change timing in endurance racing or whatever

^^^ leave the pushers unscrewed. Great photos and you may want to keep in mind that the Daytona shouldn't be compares to a SD; totally different watches.
Enjoy that beautiful Daytona!

Congrats! Really great pictures, too.

And now I know that it pairs well with an HP 12-C!

I like the pictures very nice. I do think the lume is a bit weak also on the Daytona but it is definitely very attractive on the wrist. Agreed on pushers I use my chronograph on my speedies liberally and avoid on Daytona since it's cumbersome unless I keep it screwed out... Which I don't prefer for sure.

Nice one! Congrats. I have the black face, and recently saw the white face for the first time, it is perfect . I have to say that these two (white and black face) are my favorite watches in the world right now.

Not sure if, I would want to leave the pushers unscrewed. It definitely doesn't look right and puts the waterproofness at risk. Anyway, i tend not to time too many things with a chrono ;-)

With respect to the cons, don't get me wrong, the "cons" certainly would not deter me from buying the watch nor does it lessen my love for it. it is an incredible watch. But they are cons, at least for me

Nice review, I concur with you on the most only the part you don't like polished center links.
This watch feels light after handling the Sea Dweller 116600 but Sea Dweller 116600 feels light after handling Rolex Daytona 116506.
Glidelock is one of things I would like to have but it's an item for divers

Glad you got your Daytona 500 - but your review could have also been titled 116520 since the only new item on the 116500 is the bezel.

And dial!

Bit of a random comment though...

Cosmograph Daytona Ceramic 116500LN - SHORT REVIEW

White dials and Black dials were on the 116520. Nothing new there...and cosmetically they are same as older models.

For example, the White dial:

The 116500 White dial has black surrounding the subdials which is a throwback to the 5-digit model 16520 seen below.

The 116500 Black dial is unchanged over the different models methinks.

Great review. Always love it when people list their cons in a review as no watch is perfect and this information is actually the most helpful to those who don't own the watch.

It is a beauty. Enjoy it.
