While you'll find the occasional pickpockets and on rare occasion an actual holdup, you'll be fine during the day. Keep the watch under sleeve if possible. I've worked in the city for a decade and regularly wear my DJ41 and Royal Oak while in the midtown/business district. Nice watches abound here, albeit somewhat less on the subways. The same may be said for my time in London.

Worn my Rolex riding both. Never had any problems. Don't flash it and you'll be fine.

I wore my Rolex for the 12 years I worked in NYC on the subway with zero worries or issues

Same, everyday. In Manhattan, I don’t think twice. On my Queens leg of the trip, my 214270 Explorer can peek out, but the BLNR Jubilee stays under the cuff. However my 16570 Explorer fears nobahdee! |

I can't speak to your comfort level. Since you asked the question I think you're at least somewhat uncomfortable. I wear a Rolex everywhere I do and have for years. Never an issue including NYC.

Will You be Comfortable Wearing Your Rolex in Paris Metro and NYC Subway?
Common, don’t be silly. Really, as a New Yorker I’m offended. De Blasio scared away all the criminals. No criminal would dare enter a home that now has a homeless person guarding the sidewalk on every block in every neighborhood. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Was just in Paris. Within 30 seconds in the Hermès boutiques I counted roughly 500,000 in just mens wrist watches alone. In this neighborhood, I think your Rolex is safe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Every time I go to Paris, I feel like half the city wears a Rolex, especially SS. It’s almost ridiculous... I am sure you will be safe in either city.

Nothing crazy, but I wear my 116610LN everyday. Long sleeves, short sleeves - doesn’t matter.
I’m on the 2, 4, 5 or 6 train daily. Park ave to the Bronx daily and everywhere else in between. Just be smart about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you’re in NYC in December, you’ll need a jacket. You’ll likely be wearing a long sleeve shirt of some kind too under the jacket. So you’re watch will likely be out of sight anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes to that question, I wore my daytona and SD43 in Paris and had no issues, but I wear shirts all year and don't really expose my wrists much. I did not think about it too much whilst out and about visiting friends in Paris.

Agree. I have worn nice watches in both cities. Like everywhere else, be aware of your surroundings and do not flaunt. And you will fine. Your watch may enjoy Paris more than NYC. Or visa versa, depending on the watch.

So many great advice already...
But yes long sleeve is a must but anyway it is quite cold at the moment so unless you want to be freezing you will need a coat. Subway in Paris, it will depends of which lines you will take. I personally never use the subway. Try to avoid busy time 8/9AM and 6/7PM so you won't have to be close to strangers and take risks on pick pockets. Enjoy your time here |

I ride the NYC subway daily wearing my pepsi. I generally slide it under the cuff, but I've also ridden the subway in short sleeves and it's fine. You just want to be mindful of the people around you. My main practice is just to not have the watch out on display if the train is crowded and I have to hold onto the rail for support. That's an easy way to put your watch out on display. Matter of fact, I was riding the other morning and couldn't help but notice a very nice ceramic daytona on somebody's wrist as they held onto the railing!

I wear my daytona ceramic in the subway... no problem. Most New Yorker don't really care about expensive watches on other's wrist.

I use to live in NYC... u will find many people wearing nice watches on the streets and subway. Its totally fine especially in the winter where you will be wearing long sleeves.
Now if you have a Canada goose jackets and want to come visit Chicago, thats a totally different story... people get robbed of their jackets in dead winter here... true story... |

Slight digression but I was on the London Tube yesterday from Moorgate to Euston. It was busy. At Old Street a normal enough looking bloke in a suit got on with a rose gold Nautilus on his wrist, in clear view as he gripped the overhead bar. Not a care in the world. How much are they - £60k ish?
Safest way to wear a watch is not to think about it. |

If you don’t know where you’re going, I’d leave the Rolex home.
