In spite of all the recent internet hype, these are still out there new and still depreciate from MSRP although not quite as much of late.

If I could afford to buy any Rolex watch in the current line up today it would be the white gold smurf. Such a beautiful watch.

The blue on these is lapis bright and vibrant!

Without the sunburst the dial and bezel present a coherent form that's not too reflective.

In real world lighting they are fantastic.

The glow of the white gold elevates the look.

Lume is excellent and the bezel is robust.

I wear mine more than my AP 15400 blue and Aquanaut.

They are a really enjoyable, fun wear.

They are available. And, indeed they do depreciate! I got one a couple years back in the low 20s and they are now mid to high 20s, preowned.

Hate to revive a thread, but I also got the news that the AD can no longer place a "special order" on the Hulk.

Just curious: Was this ever possible for the Hulk? When asked about it in 2018, my AD said they always "order" it but never know when/if it's in a shipment. Or do you mean your AD doesn't even have the option anymore?

That is because it along with all other SS sport models are "allocated". AD's receive what Rolex chooses to send them.

Think of this as a replacement for the 3135 movement.

Being late to join. That is just a hypothesis that all along in the years was proven right. Whenever Rolex starts to phase out a family and introduces its latest iteration that usually happens at the beginning with PM pieces in the family and in a year or two rest follow suit.

They could change the movement on all the subs. Or maybe they will just start with PM and maybe that's why the current version of the smurf could cease.

I talked to my AD last week about the HulK, Daytona, BLRO etc and something like that was never mentioned.
Maybe I do not understand the meaning of "special order" in that case.
The AD places an order and they get what they get from Rolex.

Not certain why anyone would want to buy the old one with a new model on the horizon? Wait for the improved movement minimally.

Because in the Rolex world the discontinued is always "better" than the new.

The same way the DJII value performed on introduction of the DJ41 (OK DJ39.5).

Thing is with Rolex that you never know.

The 116619LB is in production for a long time and if one is set on the beautiful flat blue dial get it while you can.

Who knows what they will do ?

For some price is no issue. Consider how Daytonas are selling (of course). SS going for the price of PMs.

Agreed - for some, price is no issue. I was originally referring to calling the smurf as the pillar of ANY collection, which ultimately is a personal choice. Some may consider one of the SS sub as their pillar.
BTW - v nice video of the coastline of Plum Island. All the best.

I don’t disagree about SS professionals being allocation only. But, I have had my AD put in orders for me on certain pieces one would think are allocation only, and deliver on said timeline.

I’ve also had them say- we cannot order that piece and Rolex will not fulfill another order for that this year.

In the case of the smurf, they tried to order and it was rejected. So.... there is an order and feedback system from the mothership. Just not on the popular SS and some DJs now.

My AD told me the same today. He said that I was lucky to get the “last one” he received from Rolex. He’s absolutely sure that he won’t get another one.

Some are assuing that a new movement will come to Subs in 2020 as if it is a done deal. This talk before has led nowhere. We shall see.
