Red service dial on a 1680?

This watch supposedly has a red SWISS service dial from RSC.

There is a thread of a smilar watch on TRF.

What do the 4-digit gurus think? The crown guards look to be very thick and the crystal shape is weird.

Left: Watch on Chrono24 -- Right: Typical looking 1680 crown guards

I would stay away from it. Like you said, the crown guards are way off.

there are MANY variations of this dating back to the late 60's early 70's I'd put this one at 1971-73 and the crown guards varied as well. I would not say this is "fake" so quickly- you need to check it out and 2 pictures on this forum is just going to get you a huge amount of opinions- many of which are unfounded.

That Submariner font is a bit on the large side.

Yes this is a tough one. The crystal is aftermarket anyway. That's a weird thing. Why put aftermarket cheap sh*t to a collectible watch?

There's something I don't like about the crown guards. Can't put my finger on it.

What makes you think the crystal is aftermarket? If you like this watch, i'd get it into a reputable collector's gallery and have it reviewed. There are SO many variations out there in the late 60's/early 70's watches- some had very thick crystals like this one... just curious what "tell" you see that make you think it's Aftermarket. I think this watch has a lot of potential..

Looks like a service center watch - with all service parts.

704 crown
dial "submariner" printing
crystal without chamfer
case engraving unclean

The overall picture is very dubious...
