IDK if its usual practice, probably now more so than ever though, at least they're ordering something for you. I have good relationship with my AD and a year ago I asked for a certain allocated DJ41 and gave him cash up front without being asked which also helped for a discount at the time. I'd say no worries. O GEEZ SORRY. I just noticed I've repeated myself on this post here from awhile ago..dummy...

Thanks for all the nice replies. I can’t believe I got it so fast. They had told me 4-6 weeks. It only took 2!

They never made me pay upfront for anything other than the Day-Date. Sky Dweller no problem. Pepsi and CHNR no problem. Submariner and D-Blue no issue. None of my wife's watches had any issue either. Only the DD.

Strange. Ohhh well.
Wow! A baller and still had to pay in full for a President???!!! Interesting that Pepsi was no issue. I guess because the Pepsi could be sold to anyone and the President might not go that quickly. Makes sense.

Love your handle and picture!

I paid a $1500 deposit for a polar explorers II even though my AD couldn’t guarantee a date. It showed commitment, and it took six weeks, but we got the call. I never doubted their integrity (Shreve & Co., San Francisco) and they’ve delivered time and again. In fact, I’m about to put a few $$$ Down on anniversary rings.

My AD refused payment/deposit. Wish they would take it so I would stop looking at secondary prices ;)

Let’s say you paid-in-full upfront a few months ago, and then today your watch came in. Do you think you would have to pay the January 2020 increase amount?

Using the no date sub as an example — you paid $7,500 in December, and now it comes today — would you expect AD to have to pay an add’l $400 to take delivery since prices have since increased?

The fine print at WoS says you do pay the higher amount.

I know an AD that ordered a PM Daytona and got stuck with it. I doubt they do that again...

That's very nice!

Deposit is normal. Some may take smaller or larger amount than others.

If it is one that they feel they could sell either way, a full refund is possible.

Good luck and look forward to the wrist shots!

If it’s what you want then go for it. 4-6 weeks is very acceptable.

I think you made a wonderful choice. It's such an elegant watch yet perfect everyday and everywhere for everything. I love my 31mm, though I"m probably wearing my 36mm a bit more these days.

Just ordered a SS Datejust 36 for my girlfriend. Didn't have to pay. I even offered to pay in full or make a deposit.

I would only do so if you had a written commitment to a reasonable delivery timeline and if they didn’t fulfill your order you can cancel for a full refund. I’d also put it on an Amex in case they lose their AD status or go out of business in the meantime. Any dealer looking for 100% up-front sounds underfunded to me.
