Traveling to UAE: To Bring or Not to Bring?

Dear TRF Members,

I will be traveling to Abu Dhabi, UAE for the first time and would like to know other's experiences/thoughts regarding bringing a timepiece from the USA to the UAE. Any issues/safety concerns? Or, in your opinion, is it best to leave the timepiece behind and enjoy it upon returning home?

Uae is very safe generally. Just take the normal safety precautions. You'll be fine

It's a watch brother. I always travel with a modest watch when I go anywhere, not my most expensive pieces.

You’re a male (guessing) going to an emirate kingdom with an ever present national security infrastructure.

I think you’re ok as long as you don’t drink or start a revolution.

It’s safer than where you are coming from, you can bring whatever watch you like.

You have nothing to worry about. You are safer in Abu Dhabi than where you are coming from.

Crime against tourists is practically nonexistent in UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi, Oman. You can wear any watch any time anywhere.

I live in Abu Dhabi for 11 years, haven’t got any problems walking anywhere with my Rolex watches.

Simple insurance is the key; not expensive and no worries to wear your watch anywhere. Now, if your worried about being attacked that's a different issue.

Traveling to UAE: To Bring or Not to Bring?

Currently in the Middle East, spent 5 days in UAE with YG DD. No issues, felt perfectly safe. There is a zero tolerance for crime. You may proceed.

Haven’t been there yet but know enough it’s one of the last places to live if you are a common thief.

Oh you are more than safe in Dubai.
Wrist shot in the most public place, wear and enjoy the heck out of your Rolex.
The only upsetting thing is that you will find ALOT of other "rare" watches in the wild. ;)

Chances are, your rolex won't stand out there and won't draw any attention, negative or otherwise. Therefore you're more than safe.

Put it this way there's so much wealth there that whatever you're wearing it won't even raise eyebrows or gain any attention, let alone enough to warrant a mugging lol.

It's perfectly safe, in fact too safe! Whenever I go which is about 2-3 times a year I get so consumed in how safe the country is generally that when I return to London I'm walking around glued to my phone unaware of my surroundings! which is a big no no in the UK.

You'll be fine! Enjoy the UAE - heck whilst you're at it go visit the biggest Rolex store in the World at Dubai Mall and yes their shelves are empty too

More luxury watches there than you can poke a stick at mate - safe place.

BTW I believe that Tourists can purchase alcohol at licensed outlets instead of Hotel bars only. They even gave me a free phone card at border control!

The only thing that will be taken there is your money - and you will give it up willingly.

No issues at all, I’ve lived here for 10 years.

I leave my house open and my car running in the street with the keys in.

Enjoy Abu Dhabi, the weather just turned amazing!

Top tip: If you get a taxi, always ask this question:

“Do you know where you are going?”

It will save you a lot of stress and money.

If the driver hesitates in any way, get in another taxi and start the process over again!

Enjoy!
