I hope the authorities gain some leads from surveillance video in and around that venue - and apprehend the perpetrator(s) soon.
As far as your insurance, if your company’s claim policy conforms to most homeowners/personal articles processes, the swap of a bracelet will be meaningless. The value you insured is what matters most. Don’t be worried by kibitzing along those lines. Common sense should prevail - can you imagine having to call your agent every time you swapped a NATO, or a Rubber-B, onto a Sub? On the hopeful side, perhaps you won’t need to file on the watches - my local police caught one of the burglars who hit my home and recovered a Rolex still in his car two weeks after the crime. Sorry to hear about your loss. They were stolen at the wedding venue reception? Hotel room? I'm always leery when i leave valuable stuff (passports/ids ) in the hotel safe when overseas. Really don't want to have them on me when doing excursions or out/about on the resort. Hope the person tries to pawn it and gets caught and you get the watches back.

Wow, I know exactly where that is. As a matter fact, my daughter was taking golfing lessons there last summer. I also had attended a wedding there but it was several years ago. How were the watches stolen? There is no hotel there (not that I know) where someone could break into your room. Were they just sitting about somewhere, or were they in your car parked outside?

USAA always takes good care.
I've never had a watch stolen, but I've had several bikes stolen from my garage (a rite of passage living in San Francisco) and some expensive camera gear and hand tools stolen from car break-ins (another rite of passage in SF). USAA has been very fair to me with 4 theft claims over 28 years. They sometimes depreciate things, but if you replace them then you will get paid for the current full value when you submit receipts. This is for the VPP and Homeowners/Renters. I'm sorry to hear they were stolen. |

Sucks man. I know you have heard this a few times but the safest place for a watch is your wrist. I would never bring more than one watch while on travel...too many unknowns.
I learned a hard lesson at a golf store. I took my Aquanaut off to try out some clubs. Let's just say I forgot to grab my watch and ended up in some guys pocket. I was asking around if someone found it and this guy's didn't hand my watch to me until his kid ratted him out...we almost had a situation... After that day the watches are either in a safe or on my wrist. |

Here’s my very recent story of buying a stolen Rolex. I located a Daytona 116520 (pre ceramic bezel) via Chronos. Price was in the ballpark for the year and quality, there were no papers. I made the deal, received the watch and as is my practice, took it to my AD upon receipt to have them open it and check the movement. All checked out at the surface level only the crystal did not have the etching of the crown under the glass at the 6, yet the movement checked out. I decided to sent it into Rolex to have an authentic crystal put on. That’s when the call came from Rolex legal. The watch had been reported stolen and the crooks had altered the serial number on the rehaut. But Rolex checked the serial number and determined it didn’t exist and then compared it to the movement; I now learned that the serial number is also engraved on the movement of each watch. So, while the watch was authentic, it was ‘hot’. Rolex put me in contact with the real owner. I’m in South Florida and the watch was stolen in LA. Rolex explained that they would retain the watch until any dispute over who ‘owned’ the watch was resolved. I told the real owner that I did not want it as it was rightfully his, and then I went to work on the jewelry store. After a few rounds of increasing threats, I received a full refund of my money, and now the watch is heading back to LA. Lesson learned: I will never buy another Rolex without the full papers and matching serials

As a service member with my watch insured through a VPP with USAA, I would also like to hear how this plays out for you. Sorry for the loss!

INSURE YOUR WATCHES! Jewelers Mutual is like $100 per year for $10k of coverage or so.....it's just stupid not to! |
