Winter travel suggestions to Thailand and hawaii
Going to visit my dad who lives in Shang Hai for work and expanding the trip.
Thinking of a few days in Bangkok, Phuket and onto Honolulu. Any suggestions on things I should check out or do? Never been to any of them except Shang Hai. |

I enjoyed visiting a Thai boxing match in BKK. They wouldn’t let me stand with the regulars as said it would be ‘too dangerous’ but was quite exciting nevertheless.
Tuk-tuk rides about the city were cool too, just watch out for dodgy drivers. I had to jump out and scarper pretty fast during one ride that was heading south a bit too fast for my liking. Never been to Phuket but hear it’s lovely, albeit a very popular tourist destination.

I was in Bangkok for a week in August.
Traffic jam is brutal so always plan accordingly and try to use the train whenever you can. You can use "GRAB" app which is the equivalent of Uber, you can even call for a motorcycle which actually will help you get to places much quicker than taxis (safety not guaranteed). As far as sightseeing goes, I recommend visiting Ayutthaya for a day. You can arrange a private driver through hotel and they're pretty cheap. And don't forget to get some Thai massage! |

Food is lovely as long as you eat Thai food.
If you haven't yet booked a hotel in BKK, I recommend the Sheraton Royal Orchid. We always stay here. As it has some lovely grounds and is right down by the river. Phuket is nice, but used to be much nicer. Very touristic. Lot's of nice hotels. Great nightlife, if you are into that sort of thing. There's lots to do on Phuket (and Bangkok too) so I would recommend spending a week at each. A few days will make you go crazy. For flying between Bangkok and Phuket I'd choose Thai. Great pricing and they fly from the main airport (Suvarnabhumi). Thailand is a very fun and safe country, as long as you "give a little" of yourself. The Thai's are very funny and friendly.
