Watch Storage For The Common Folk

Borrowed this great idea from a member of The SCWF [Seiko & Citizen Watch Forum]. I love simple, easy to produce solutions like this.

Bought pipe insulation for the cushions. You can experiment with different sizes and combos but found this as the best solution for my watches.

This allows for storage of extra straps as well.

Pros:
-All watches and many straps stored in one place.
-Easy to carry to GTG's.
-Easy to customize.
-Inexpensive DIY.
-Fits watches w/ nato's, bracelets, and straps w/ ease.
-Easily fits larger sized watches.

Cons
-A thief can grab all your stash in one hand.
-Certainly doesn't pass the snob test.

A quick trip to Home Depot and you can do the same.

Dan,

That is awesome!

Love the attention to detail and use of creative ideas. It really looks like it works well.

Pretty nice collection as well.

Good stuff!!

Out of curiousity - what kind of chrono is the watch in the box one up from the bottom right corner?

Very clever Dan.

I especially like your solution for the cushion material.

Excellent job Dan Another plus is that in case of an emergency, you can grab your whole stash too

Can't take credit for the material but can for the interlocking design.

Very cool piece - I will have to learn a bit more about Pierce. The look reminds me a bit of the old Universal Geneve chronos

Terrific project, Dan - and it's really neat to see all of those great vintage Seikos together with all of the straps and braclets

I've been studying the photos and I'm pretty sure you can fit a few more in there. Maybe your wife will even let you grab it when she kicks you out of the house

That was a generous gift from my friend, Chris [belk7]. A couple months ago when my bro in law was looking for a Speedy I was showing him my only manual chrono and his eyes popped. Since he didn't have a beater [hate to use that term because this was virtually brand new] and followed the space program [hence the Speedy] I bought a reissue space velcro strap and the Alpha. He wore it in chicago a few weeks ago, he loves it. Chris was very understanding about it and thought of it as passing it forward.

Chris, I think you might have stumbled upon something there. This is also intended [designed] to harness my spending habits. One more will fit but beyond that, one in, one out!

Now you just need to mount the whole thing on some kind of turntable so it can function as a winder too! :-)

Hi Dan

Wow that is an awsome and ingenious wis case.
I am thinking of getting a mid size Peli case with several cut outs and spend the next ten years filling it up
Just don't tell the wife !!!!!

BTW I love the Bullhead on todays WRUW (top row centre stage) it looks like NOS.

Great thread

Great idea Dan myself done similar with one of my old diving camera waterproof cases.Just cannot see any point in spending huge money on fancy boxes to keep any watch in no matter what the price.

Thanks again, everyone!

I should also mention I installed a layer of foam insulation in each compartment for a tighter fit and more protection.

The foam pipe insulation looks like a great idea. I may replace the holders in my Rotolution winder since I'm not too happy with the spring tensioned holders in the winder.

I love the Hamilton Ventura from the first time I saw one.

Edit... I've been looking on the internet and it seems this was originally a gold watch (Elvis had one) but they were reissued in quartz and Stainless since 1988. Still it's a darn cool watch. Dan is it a quartz or the automatic version?
