Apple watch and my Datejust! Need your votes Gentelmen!

Dear Gentlemen,

I've been a happy owner of the Datejust 36 from the last couple of years. Can't tell you how happy I am! I have a collection of watches, not expensive ones though. Recently, about a year ago, I purchased the Apple Watch 4, which was a cool watch by the way. To be honest, I like both the watches, be it apple or Rolex, I even wore them both a couple of times, which my wife started laughing at me :D.

When I decided to wear one watch finally, I wear my Datejust and just love it! Simply love it, the other day I wear my Apple Watch 4 and sort of love it, ofcourse I know there is no comparison between the two for me, but I dont wanna feel bad on choosing one thing over the other.

I would kindly request you all to tell me which watch would be best?

Rolex Datejust or the Apple Watch 4.

Your votes truly matter!

Sincerely,

Niroop

Well if you want to make accurate definitions of your dilemma. Your Rolex is a wristwatch and your Apple device is a wrist computer.

When you carry your phone in your pocket, you don't call it a pocket watch do you. It's a phone/computer that can tell you the time as well.

So to solve your dilemma. Wear your watch on one arm and your wrist computer on the other.

They both have different uses and functions.

A mechanical watch is an engineering marvel and for us, brings us joy to look at, AND it also tells the time.

The DJ is a watch.

The Apple is a wearable computer.

You're comparing apples to spark plugs.

I wear both. Rolex on the left and Apple Watch on the right. I got the smaller watch and use a black mesh bracelet and usually wear it with the face on the inside of my wrist. I need the Apple Watch to monitor all my movement for medical reasons. Who cares what people think, wear what you want when you want.

I just double wrist. The truth is nobody ever says anything if that’s what you’re worried about. I think of the AW as a tool and my mechanical watch as my watch.

GMT LN and series 5: I hate my Apple Watch. I can do so many things, keep tabs on my workout, start a timer, notify me of messages, wake me, has fun faces, warms me of noise, keeps an eye on me when biking, advance music and it doesn’t look expensive. Whatever. I love my gmt. No charging, I already have 4 devices each night to look after, simple, it works, when the going gets tough it keeps on ticking, looks stylish, use the complication all the time. It just works. So far, in winter I use both , in the summer I don’t think I could double wrist ist. Even turned over. Or could I?

I do not enjoy my Apple Watch. It turns off, I have to shake it to start. Ditto with mschafer, I have enough things to charge.

I like old tech, a mechanical watch. It has a soul. Like they say on the Oris movement, give me “High Mech.”

I love my Apple 5 and wear it every day. It is my morning watch but one I enjoy wearing whenever it is on.

My wife is not a WIS by any means. She wears a Time Easy Reader I bought her ages ago as her daily and a Citizens lady's dress watch I bought her for a birthday years ago. I have been thinking about getting her an Apple Watch and when I brought it up her answer surprised me.

She said that she is already so connected and she enjoys wearing watches because she can disconnect through them. This was quite profound in my opinion.

I have warn a Rolex daily for over 30 years now. I have had 3 gmt’s, 3 subs, 2 sea dwellers, 2 Daytona’s, one date just, one date just and I am probably forgot one or two more. I love my Apple Watch, more and more all the time. I feel an obligation to wear one of my Rolex’s because I am so heavily invested in them. Now that I am stuck in the house, I only wear the Apple 5. I’ll get out a Rolex when I go out or to my office.

If you have to ask, ....................... sell the Rolex.

Skinny jeans and a man bun are usually soon to follow.

As others are saying, two very different items. To me, unless you want/need the money you could get from selling the Rolex, simply keep both. For the past year I’ve alternated between my AP and PP at work and the Apple Watch for weekends and working out. Now with COVID, I’ve been wearing my Apple Watch almost full time in our clinic. I may be over-reacting a bit but am a little worried about what our anti-viral wipes may do to the finish (bracelet and case) gaskets, and rubber straps with daily disinfection, especially since this may last many months.

Do whatever you think is best for you, but I do think there’s a place for both.

A Casio DW5600-BB could replace your Apple gadget. Your cell phone will fill the void of your Apple.

Thanks a ton Gentlemen for your advice.

Final conclusion - change my Apply watch into a bracelet or wear both my watches.

Have a good one and stay safe people!

Sincerely,

Niroop
