A 16600 SD maybe pulling me back
Hi all,
I thought I was done with Rolex but a 16600 F serial has caught my eye at a (relatively) local dealer. This is a watch I considered a couple of years ago before I got the sub 114060. They’re different enough to my eyes to justify adding it and fits my 6.75” wrist better than the ceramic SDs. I don’t see many of the 16600s on here. Do many of you have this in regular rotation or as a daily? Cheers |

I have an SD4K in rotation (which is fairly close), but you really can't go wrong with a 40mm SD. Such a classic design and size, and without cyclops!
Go for it

Mine is at RSC right now for service. It’s a fantastic watch, better daily wearer than the ceramic Sea Dwellers for sure. I put mine on an Everest strap because the clasp was not even close to being centered on the underside of my wrist. Pics below - please excuse the poor quality..

It’s a great watch. I love my 16600. To me personally I think it’s the perfect watch. The size fits me well. It’s very comfortable and I really like the aesthetics. Wear it regularly in my rotation. I’ll pass it down to my son one day, but I think I may get another after that as a daily wearer for retirement.

I have both the 16600 and 114060 and agree they wear differently. I think the 16600 is actually one of the best of the 5-digits available and is one of my all time favorites. Perfect proportions with date and no ugly cyclops.
I wear my 16600 and 114060 equally in rotation with a couple other watches. |

I took a link out of the "6" o'clock side and moved over to the "12" o'clock side on my 16600, and it centered the clasp much better. Great watch!

SD16600 is a great looking watch, for sure.
Keep in mind tho b4 u buy.. it is a top heavy watch.. and not for everyone. I had one and I moved it for a subLV over 10 years ago. No regrets. YMMV. I now have SD43 and surprisingly, it doesn’t flop around like the 16600 did.

I just bought a 16600 to add to my collection along with a 16710 and 116523.
I love it. It wears so much smaller than the dimensions suggest. The older 5 digit references were unique and simply well designed. Go for it. |

That makes a great trio. Funny, in some pics it even looks smaller than a 5-digit sub which must be a trick of the eye.

No it is smaller ... Technically the spec listed from Rolex in their official materials is a 39.5 case for both the 16600 and 14060. They share the same bezel insert which is more narrow than the Submariner date. The 16610 was listed as 40mm case. Putting the 16610 or the 16710 for that matter and 16600/14060 together in person you’ll see the slight different. You can search around the forum here. It should yield a thread with this info. Actually probably isn’t going to patina. This is a U serial tritium marked dial with luminova plots and hands. Something to look out for on late 90s watches if you are set on a tritium watch. |

The 16600 was my first Rolex in 2008. Still love it, but the 126660 JC gets more wrist time these days.

Looks like you have both the 16600 and the 14060. Curious how you would compare the two for wearability, mainly from a height / thickness perspective. Thanks.

I’ve also owned both. The 14060 is both thinner and lighter than the 16600. It also has a hollow end link bracelet which does tend to wrap nicer around smaller wrists. The hollow end link bracelet on the 14060 also has the older stamped divers extension. The solid end-link 16600 features the newer style “button” extension which is much better. The 14060 and 16600 are both narrower in terms of case diameter than the 16610. Every so slightly but they do wear a little smaller. The 16600 is heavier and thicker BUT the difference between the two is not as noticeable on the wrist as you’d think. The 16600 very rarely gets caught up on sleeve and the older style bracelets are light and comfortable making it much more easy to wear than say a 116600 (also one I’ve owned). To me, having owned all the 5 digit divers, I look at it this way - the original Submariner (no-date) is still the best classic stub and the newer model V-G-Random 14060s are truly the last of the best. But if you want a 5 digit reference with a date - I’d choose the 16600 all day over the Submariner date. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
