Wife's 40th is coming up

and I have zero idea what to get her. Initially it was either going to be a flight out to northern California and a road trip up to where she was born, or an adults-only trip out to Universal Studios and Epcot (went a couple years ago with the kidlettes and we loved both of those parks...have been wanting to go back since).

But COVID kinda screwed that up.

So now I'm kinda just sitting here clueless.

Throw some ideas at me to help get the brain going. I've got a month.

Watches are out. Jewelry in general is a no-go.

Wouldn't catch me dead in an airliner right now without a trustworthy and reliable vaccine in my system.

Road trip sounds good. If not California, maybe to a nice Spa Ranch somewhere in Texas or close to it? Relaxation, spa treatments, gentle horse riding, nights under the stars, wilderness, nature, sunrise coffee, steak dinners, wine evenings, etc. Peace and quiet. No chores for her, no cleaning.

Wildcatter Ranch and JL Bar Ranch look like nice options in Texas after a brief search and website perusal.

Get a puppy.

Never heard of anyone ask for a gift receipt. And if she doesn’t like it, you get a puppy.

Maybe share what you’ve already crossed out?

My next suggestion was going to be a cat, third a new tv, fourth an iPhone, fifth a new accessory from her favorite brand.

Got those?

TV...nah.

Phone is less than a year old.

She’s not really into “brands.” I bought her a purse and wristlet from Coach a couple years ago and that was the fanciest accessory she had ever owned. She’s pretty simple and selfless. Which is why this is difficult.

I’ve considered the spa day thing pretty often. Got her a little mini one for Valentines. That went over well. At this point it’s a matter of balancing her covid comfort levels with what services would be available.

I banked hard on the trips. Like...multi-year planning for the California road trip. I’m going to keep that one in back pocket.

My focus seems to be on relaxation type gifts. We live pretty hectic lives, between 2 kids (difficult only because of biological father), full time jobs, team stuff, and the general goings-on right now. Which is why the spa thing is the genera direction I’m headed.

What about a case of wine from her favorite vineyard.

My wife's 40th is next year and I am getting her a nice watch. Something that can be worn every day and when she looks at it she will think of you.

Wife's 40th is coming up

I bought my wife a very expensive watch for our wedding anniversary and she didn’t appreciate it as much as I hoped.

I learned very quickly that my “love language” wasn’t hers in a bad way. If you want to make her birthday memorable, buy her what she appreciates; not what you would appreciate. A loving husband understands his wife more than anything else.

I have been down that road at least once every year since we’ve been married. Even still it’s a mental battle between “do I want this for her, or would she want this for her?” Luckily I struck good with the engagement ring and wedding band, both of which were custom. Oh, and the Apple Watch.

I’m flattered!

Alcohol is a no-go for her. But you got me thinking about our 10yr anniversary.

Make her a romantic dinner. I just got my missus a NoteCube, which I thought was a really good idea by the people who do it, it comes from Australia so give yourself plenty of time. It is very simple but my wife loves them. I have thought of getting a custom wooden box from one of the great oak workers (Mouseman being the most famous but most expensive) around here to make the gift more permanent, she loves them that much.

Most women would love a new vacuum and ironing board.

Does she have any hobbies or interests? Or things she’s wanted to try at some point?

That’s such a personal gift, I’m sure you’ll make a good choice based on how well you know your wife.

I threw my wife a party with our very closest friends and family at our favorite restaurant.

My wife loves nice things (who doesn’t) but she’s more about experiences that have lasting memories. Your wife may be the former or the later

Work, sleep, kids, and cycling. That what our life revolves around. I try to avoid cycling related gifts/ trips, because typically our summers are spent flying out every weekend and busting through a 36hr whirlwind of managing a team. But things she's wanted to try....I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to poke around for that one.

The party thing was also on my short list. But then her bestie got pregnant and is due a week before wifey's b-day. I'm sure we'll all get together at some point to celebrate, but it's hard to say when that'll happen. That'll be a bonus.

Today is my wife's birthday and I bought her the newest generation iPad.

I'm also thinking of a weekend trip to Montreal for us.

I had suggested the mop thing, but she wouldn't bite......

I'm guessing you're single now.

Or perhaps living in the basement/garage.

If it’s not Jewellery or Watches, I’m stumped!!

My wife turns 40 later this year and there’s a Gold Daytona waiting for her. If she doesn’t like it, I will happily wear it. Winner!

I've given her 3 watches since we've been married - a white G-Shock, a white Sistem51, and her Apple Watch. I think she wears the Apple Watch more than she wears her wedding ring.

Partially unrelated to the post, and I know a forum dislike. Those apple watches are amazing, recommend them.

Back to the topic at hand. Im sure you know her love language. Maybe a well written card? If you dont want to fly to California. Why not treat her to a nails, hair, spa thing? Maybe just some time to herself to relax?
