16710 Tritium or 16710 Error dial

good evening, Iv been a long time reader of the forum, love all that you can learn by just scrolling through the threads.
Now I have a question to throw out the the masses. sorry for being long winded)

I am about to buy my second Rolex and I’m a little stuck.
I am wanting to get a little older of a piece but don’t know which would be best for my uses.
I am looking for something to wear daily when I’m not wearing my 114060. Something a little more shirt and tie and different than my sub.
I’m not hard on my watches, but at the same tome they are not babied either.

So to the point. I’m looking at 2 16710’s. One has a tritium dial, which I really like as it “could” patina and change color and have a infesting look later on, or a error dial that doesn’t really bring to much to the table but is something a little different.

My biggest concern/question, do I need to worry about tritium flaking/cracking and coming loose inside the watch being a couple times a week wearer, or are my concerns unfounded? Or is the error dial something that is a sleeper and cooler than I realize.

Thank you for any input you may have or possibly something I’m not thinking about.

I would not worry at all about the tritium flaking off on the older, tritium GMT IIs. Although it might be possible to chip or break off under some circumstances or rough treatment, it definitely is not normal for this to happen. I've owned several the past 20 years and have never had an issue with flaking lume.

As far as the "error" dial GMT goes, as you are probably well aware, there is no such thing as an error dial GMT 16710. This is just a later GMT II luminova dial with some minor differences in the dial fonts which, at some point, a collector called it an "error" dial which was picked-up by other collectors and for some reason the name stuck.

Stick dial yes, error dial not really.....I would go tritium myself....
