Richard Mille vs Rolex

I know this will likely be invitation into the fire, but I am interested in hearing the discussion.

After a decade plus of flipping and moving up the ladder, I find myself ready to take a turn into a different direction.... sort of.

Below is a wrist shot of the major pieces in my current collection. After a trip to NYC, and the Watch Circus that is 47th Street (wow!), I have found myself attracted to Richard Mille watches. I even paid a visit to the Manhattan RM store to try some on. Quite unique and impressive pieces.

I am thinking of:
1.) Selling the Platinum Daytona and the Patek 5960-1a (the two on the right side of my arm), plus adding another $10-$15k, to use to acquire a RM 60-01 (pictured below).
2.) Keeping the SeaDweller red and the modified SS Daytona ceramic (the two on the left), then
3.) Adding a 218206 platinum DayDate later this year, for elegance, to complete the collection.

Curious to hear some constructive input and discussion.

I think RM pricing is going to crash, but if future value is not a concern do what you like. Personally I dont really care for RM. Sorry just being honest. FYI I love the PL Daytona and your PP on a bracelet!!

Are you a WIS or an art collector? If you're the former, not a chance. If you're the latter, go for it. Personally, I would never give up a Rolex and/or a Patek for any Richard Mille I've ever seen, much less putting cash on top of the deal.

Maybe would do this for a watch I really wanted. As such I only buy to keep nowadays, I played the flipping game aka chasing my tail or as another poster put it, chasing the dragon. Never found satisfaction in the end. Nowadays I’m happier buying keepers.
That particular RM is the last one I’d consider though and I agree that if you’re buying an RM, you’re probably not in need of “trades” to make it happen.

Id rather let go the two on the left, forgo the DD, and top of the cash for the RM. And agree with the others that if going RM, there are better RM to hunt down.

But at the end of the day, do what you're happy with on the collection. Just seems like your throwing a wrecking ball to a great collection for the sake of something different.

SD43, Custom Daytona, Platinum Ice-blue DD2, RM 60-01. I love it! A watch for every occasion. From stupid crazy to super serious to fancy pants. These 4 would have you covered.

I like the 60-01 and the 11-2. Can't explain why or justify it, but after trying on some RM's I have lusted for one.

I will say this as well... thats not a bad looking RM, the others look like a child's toy to me. However, I think this style is the least sought after RM

A couple of items.

First, I get the love-it or hate-it feeling of RM. I can't help what sings to me. Interesting that there is no love for this model, but I'm not surprised. Which refs does everyone prefer, the tonneau shapes?

Second, ultimately, I will still end with three pretty classic Rolex pieces - and the unique RM. Variety is what I am seeking - and a chance to move away from the traditional. After 20 years of loving Rolex and Patek, its time to add something new and fun.

After all, RELAX, they're all just watches - enjoy the ride ..... if you buy and sell smart, you'll NEVER lose money in this game... and you'll get to own some incredible timepieces.

The RM design is definitely for those with an acquired taste and not for most anyone, not to mention the numbers or being a competition with Rolex but If that's what makes you happy then I say go for it. Not to sound to cliche' but life is too short.

A sales ad for a 60-01 spiked my interest in that model not long ago. I have never tried on a RM round body though, so that caps my interest at this time. I have tried on the tonneau's and loved them. With a GMT, Grande Date, Annual Calendar, Chronograph and great open work, the 11-2 calls to me the most.

FWIW, I tried on my first RM (sales manager handed me his in NYC to try on), and while I didn't 'love it' for the price, I could at least intellectually understand the appear early adopters of RM must have seen in the technical and design aspects of the watch. Enjoy the revamp!

I like option 3... that platinum day date is sweet and will age well. I am not sure that people are going to like RM in 15 years... I am almost certain they will like Rolex.
