AP 15300ST Blue Dial, where's the love?

Just curious why more isn't posted on this particular model. Do people generally feel it's been surpassed by the 15400, or it rests in the shadows of the 15202? I know for a while these were hard to track down, particularly with the blue dial- but have these fallen out of favor in general? I lusted after it for a significant period of time before I was able to find one in the condition I desired, but maybe it's been overhyped???

I don't think they've fallen out of favor--I see them mentioned as an option in every "Help me decide between 15450 and 15400" thread. While that option might be a great one, most potential buyers will dismiss looking for a 6+ year old used watch that they may have to buy from an online source.

They pop up in "what are you wearing right now" and various other threads every now and then, probably not any less often than the 15202ST that preceded the 40th Anniversary model.

No doubt a new 15300ST would sell like hotcakes, but I guess AP can already sell all of the stainless steel Royal Oaks they desire to produce, from 37mm to 41mm.

I think since it’s an out of production model they don’t get mentioned as much as the current 15450 and 15400. In addition, a clean set rarely comes up for sale. Either way beautiful watch.

If still in production, you would see a lot of it. It's an older version and therefore not a common.

I’d definitely buy one if I could go back in time when it was still in regular production. Wasn’t into watches at that point of my life. It’s the perfect size. The 15400 is way too big for me and 15450 is too small. 15202 is too difficult to get.

Now you can only find pre owned 15300 blue dials at crazy prices.

You just do not see them very often. I post up when I am wearing mine and I absolutely love it. I was torn on the 15202 versus 15300 but I really need the second hand, its the heartbeat of the watch and shows me its alive, I just couldn't do without that. In addition to the quickset and no screw down crown but I probably could have come to terms with those two. Last blue 15300 I saw sell on here went for a pretty penny, Fred sold it, who is a regular here on TRF. We bought ours at almost the exact same time.

Not wearing today but here you go:

I wish I didn't let mine go back in 2009! Sold it for a pittance ($6,250)!

AP 15300ST Blue Dial, where's the love?

Because it’s an older model and I don’t think they are many owners of the 15300st blue dial here on TRF plus they sell at a big premium compared to the white and black dials on the grey market.

Here’s mine and I love it.

About a few months ago 15300ST and 5402 C series or later where going for less than a new retail 15202ST and much less than a 15202ST grey, which is a bit crazy. Considering that the 15202ST is a reissue of the 5402ST and has the same movement with only major difference being the rotor being carved on the 15202ST with open caseback, there was no reason for this price gap and the market for both the 15300 and 5402 where bound to be corrected upwards to match demand for 39mm Royal Oak models.

I managed to pick up my 5402 in perfect condition at about retail of a 15202ST and my 15300ST at less than retail of a 15400 blue dail and way less than a 15400 blue grey. I would assume that the main cause for the both the 15300 and 5402 not getting the same exposure is there is less of a marketing focus on those models from grey dealers, because they can't get their hands on these two pieces as there is no new supply. Thus by default when the average watch buyer looks for a 39mm Royal oak they head to the 15202, and the power of default is driving people to throw themselves initially at the 15202.

If you are a watch collector and want to get some really nice value 39mm Genta design AP, look for the 5402SA. They fly deep under the radar for most average watch buyers and offer huge value at the prices they are going for, i.e if you are willing to go through the hassle, time and risk getting a vintage watch. But when it does pay off, you are looking at a huge gain both in terms of increasing the value of your collection or when you are looking to resell later on down the road.

Just not many about as it is not in production, I always favoured the black dial as the blue was very navy and too dark for me.
