A Hypothetical - Which model from these would you buy from an AD?

I had a fair amount of windshield time this past week so got to pondering a couple of different questions, some Rolex related and many not, but the best Rolex question I had, is as follows:

Which model from these would you buy from an AD as a 2nd piece to further your collection and enjoyment, versus purchasing the piece on the secondary market?

Assume you already had a Stainless piece already - such as a GMT or Sub. You can imagine it being something fancy like a BLRO or whatever if that helps you come to a decision. ;)

It seems to me that there is a matrix or crossover point where you want to go to your AD of choice instead of going secondhand, but I imagine it is different for everybody.

Please answer the poll with the current availability situation in mind. If the situation was that everything was in stock everywhere, this would be a different conversation, I'm sure. :)

In case anybody is curious, this list is mostly based off what I'm seeing out there in the various AD's cases over the last month or so. Hopefully this will be an enjoyable thread and foster lots of good discussion and comments.

The only piece that really interests me on your list is the explorer 2 - white dial. But honestly, maybe I’m missing something but I don’t really get what you’re asking lol.

I am a bit surprised that there is not a single watch on your list that I would purchase. I wish you had added a “none” selection.

The 116613LB is the only watch on your list that interests me so I chose that one. It's also the only watch on your list that my AD had in the case when I visited a few days ago.

I'll have to vote "bacon" on this one. I'd rather be patient than buy something just because it's in stock.

Not voting because TapaTalk doesn’t display polls.

But my observation: the AD is only competitive on PM models.

I was at my AD today (a large boutique) the only thing they had was a black Expll. That was it. I did buy a Polar recently. No PM sports left either only one TT Yachtmaster, so I checked out the Tudor section and it was a different story except no SS GMT. I've been thinking about a Heritage Chrono which I tried on and got a good discount and l might be getting that real soon. I was told they're not expecting anything from Rolex to be available for a year, anything they may get in is spoken for as they have long lists for everything.

Historically, I have purchased my new Rolex or Tudor watches from ADs and only my vintage watches from third-parties.

This is my personal preference.

None for me too. I wish you could reconsider choices. A PM reference perhaps?

None of these sorry. Maybe that's why they are in the AD's cases.

Given the affluence of the area it’s hardly surprising, but still disappointing that a standalone boutique is actually worse off for prospective availability than regular ADs.

Looks like I can't edit my initial post.

Choices, in order:

Reference 116680 aka The Yatch Master II, in stainless
Reference 216570 aka The Explorer II, White Dial
Reference 216570 aka The Explorer II, Black Dial
Reference 116613LB aka TT Sub in Yellow Gold and Stainless, with Blue Dial and Bezel
Reference 116503 aka TT Daytona, in YG and Stainless, White Dial

Question is: If you were going to pick one of these to purchase from an AD instead of from the secondhand market, which one would you pick?

Extra credit for a why.

Seems like that is very AD or location dependent - I've asked one AD and been told they don't discount on anything, but yet, on this forum, lots of reports that folks get discounts...

The market doesn't favor purchasing any of these references @ retail, so I wouldn't.

That is also the purpose of the question.

The Explorer II Polar is the only watch on your list that I would buy, so that's my choice. I would expect at least a 10% discount on it though, even in these times.

I'm glad somebody understood the subtext.

I was looking at prices shown on Watchrecon for the TT Sub and YMII which is another factor that got me thinking about this line of question.

The Sub has many for sale from 11.5K to 12.5K. New, it's 13.4K, so you are talking $1900 or less of a difference.

I just checked the TT Daytona and seems to be cheaper from a percentage perspective than those two references. Hmm.

The Explorer II seems to be about $1100 off so we are talking about 12% there...

The YMII is all over the place - anywhere from 13.5K to 16.3K. Retail is 18.75K. That's really weird; I'm assuming it is due to the piece being very polarizing to the average buyer.
