Nice receipts, bands and parts. It’s unusual to see its plight, repairs and the sad state that the dial is in. Quite unusual to see that these great watches exist in disrepair

For $5150 I imagine he was buying a new one when he dropped this off for service. Looks like he paid $100 down towards the nearly $600 estimated repair cost in 89. Then maybe went back decided screw the old sub and bought a new DJ instead and had them return all the parts in disrepair?

I agreee with you dan. What would be key is if he had the orig war papers in the folders. It could justify the purchase of a new red dial. The back end value could get up there

Dan look at the 11 o’clock lug in the pick where he is photographing the printing of the engraving between the lugs. Those bracelets wore down the inner 11 o’clock lug. I hate that damage. I have a tudor with that.

I still kind of like that dial. I like screwed up watches I suppose.

I hadn't noticed that wear on the lug. Pretty remarkable really that the end-links could do that. I guess that provides motivation to keep things clean of dirt and grit.

The best case scenario would be for someone to buy this who appreciates the dial, and has a watchmaker with tons of spare parts.

Thats in AED . The currency here. 5150 AED equates to 1400USD. The datejust receipt was 7 yrs or so before the repair, so I doubt it that these papers belong to this watch. If I was buying it, I would think like Dan focussing on the case, bracelet, bezel only.

Yes, exactly. My theory is that when the first link wears down and stretches, the slack in that first link rubs the inner lug. On a tight oyster, the first link cannot touch the inner lug. Old worn out oysters can mess up a case. This is my theory anyway

So it’s not the endlink that does this, but the edge of the first oyster link!

That inner lug wear is the easiest to fix. A laser welder just adds material to the inside lug and files it flat. I have repaired dozens of lugs with this wear, gold and steel. I might even have a pic of one before and after.

This happens from loose end links/last links rubbing against inside lug tip

Before and after. Same case. I marked the inner lugs with blue sharpie for the laser welder so he knew what to do. The after shows all 4 inner lugs as square.
