Officer down, Toledo Ohio PD

Police Officer Brandon Stalker was shot and killed at about 6:30 pm yesterday during a barricade involving an arson suspect.

At approximately 2:20 am the front doors of the historic Rosary Cathedral had been set on fire and racial statements were spray painted onto the walls. At approximately 3:30 pm officers spotted the suspect near his house in the 2300 block of Fulton Street and attempted to talk to him. The man drew a handgun and ran into a home where he barricaded himself inside.

The department's SWAT team responded to the scene and, after negotiations failed, fired a chemical irritant into the home in attempt to force him outside. The man emerged from the home holding two handguns and opened fire. Officer Stalker, who was on a perimeter position, was struck in the head and fatally wounded.

Other officers returned fire and killed the subject.

Officer Stalker had served with the Toledo Police Department for 2-1/2 years. He is survived by his child and fiancée.

Godspeed my brother.

Very sad. RIP

Toledo Police Department has a bad reputation. Too much misconduct, use of excessive force, etc. They even falsely arrested photographers on phony charges and were sued for violating the journalists’ civil rights.

Godspeed, Officer Stalker.

Godspeed, Officer Stalker.
This is a tribute to the memory of a young officer who made the ultimate sacrifice, no need to bring the negativity into it. I’m not disagreeing with you but this thread isn’t the place.

It’s a disservice to Officer Stalker’s memory if we don’t hold the TPD to a much higher standard. He died, partly, because TPD initiated a SWAT standoff with a citizen who was suspected of spray painting some graffiti. As a result of the standoff, two people are now dead. Was it worth it? Nothing negative about hoping that his unnecessary and senseless death results in some positive change.

The only disservice to Officer Stalker’s memory is your summary of the incident and your intentional omission of key facts. Your attempt to minimize and trivialize the suspect’s actions in order to push your anti-LE agenda is pretty transparent. If you’re going to feign sympathy you need to try harder.

Suspected of spray painting graffiti? How about he was wanted for attempting to set the church on fire and vandalizing it with racial slurs. When the suspect was later identified and approached by officers, after a brief conversation, he drew a weapon and fled inside. Then after a prolonged standoff with the aforementioned SWAT and conveniently forgotten crisis negotiators a chemical agent was deployed and he came out shooting. But the totality of the suspect’s action were just spray painting graffiti? Nothing important, I’m surprised the police really got involved at all.

I post these threads as a tribute to the fallen, NOTHING MORE. Apparently you don’t comprehend this. If you can’t add positivity to the thread don’t add anything at all. Memorial threads are not to be used as your private soapbox and will not be tolerated.

I won’t respond — as your inaccurate characterization has political undertones — and I come to TRF to avoid politics. Enjoy having the last word.

Sick response for someone who gave his life in the line of duty! We don't need your anti police commentary here. No one brought politics into to this except you. Must have either gotten locked up or failed the police entrance exam!

No, I actually spent most of my adult life defending the rights of people like you to make ignorant comments about things they know nothing about. Enough said, but I'm sure you have one more comment. People like you always do.
