Considering this 79090, Yay or Nay?

Considering this 79090 from a dealer who frequents this forum!

This would be my first “nice watch.” To me, it looks awesome but I’m new to this. Offered to me at $6700, 1-year warranty, no box/papers. I’ve seen similar listed at $6k from private parties but I also see them listed above $7k+. I've also seen threads on here questioning that value...

Any advice is welcome! Thanks!

It appears to be a nice Tudor for the asking price.

I can’t fault it. Maybe count the links. I see 5 on one side and six on the other. I think there should be 12 or 13. Not the biggest deal unless the band won’t fit you. Any idea if it keeps time? I figure if it’s your first sub, you would want something that is within 15 sec a day and you can take a shower with it on. Ask him

Looks very nice. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

I ended up selling mine when I upgraded to a Rolex 5513. You might want to take a short cut in your watch journey and just save up for a nice 5513 instead of the Tudor.

What is the most significant upgrade there?

Good calls! It has an amplitude of 269 and beat error of .2ms. Will ask the rest!

That is a good price for a very attractive example.

Any service history? If there's been a recent service, that seems to be a fair deal (not great, but certainly not bad).

I love the thick lugs, matching patina all around, that it appears to have no or minimal polish, and potentially original folded link bracelet.

Great example of original parts in great condition that's very nicely aged. If it tells time well, I'd say go for it.

Very nice!

I’m still learning about vintage watches. Anything you would do or not do while wearing it? Seems there is a little bit of debate in this area, from old threads I have read. I’d like to wear mine all the time, maybe not swimming laps in a pool with chemicals, but absolutely want to during other athletic pursuits. Is the key getting it regularly pressure tested?

Congrats. Yes, it should be fine as long as it's pressure tested. It's a very sturdy watch. Wear it well.

Congrats. It's a great choice and a unique one at that. A nice break from the regular subs. Wear it in good health!

It’s a gem of a watch. I love the matte dial and the lack of any chrome surrounds on the lume.

I’ve worn my Tudor subs in the pool. At the beach. I played hockey with it on one night (im a goalie). Just always clean it with soap and warm water to remove salt exposure.

My pet peeve is pushing a shopping cart over the Tialed floor in the veggie section. Too much vibration!

Looks like a nice start to your collection, congrats. If you plan to wear it swimming, get a full multi-stage pressure test (not just vacuum) by someone who knows what they are doing. Then you will feel confident.

I went a different route and sold my 5513 and bought a 79090 about six years ago and have no regrets..Phillip Ridley recently added a superdome crystal at my last service and I love it even more.

Dans pressure test advice is great. Few people know what their vintage pieces look like under water. The crystal makes it all deep and distorted. It’s very pretty to behold

I find the Tudor big triangle hour markers is beautiful compare to 5513. The eta movement is also easy to service and find parts and relatively cheaper too. I’d say go for it and likely you won’t feel regret when you look back at this decision.

Buy it. My fat fist wouldn’t fit in that but it’s still a good deal. It’s got the earlier dial. Very cool.
