Is it possible a 1997 16710 U series to be a Swiss Only Dial?
Hi,
Bought a Gmt 16710 from 1997 and is a Swiss Only dial. Is this possible? I thought I was only from 1998-1999. The serial is a U series but is the year 1997 with the Swiss Only Dial that is getting me confused. Thank you! |

Letter prefixes are not from a single year. Charts generally show when that prefix was first seen in the marketplace, then they were produced for the next 3 or 4 years, concurrently with the prefix letters on either side.
Rolex never made any serial prefix for a single year, and they didn't stop one letter when the next one came out - they overlap.

Does your dial glow brightly when it goes into a dark room?
Larry is certainly right about the vicissitudes within charts and real world Rolex idiosyncratic production sequences. But I would say your watch could possibly have a replacement dial if it glows brightly after exposure to light. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The SWISS luminova dial replaced the tritium SWISS T < 25 dial around 1997. After approximately one year in production, the SWISS dial was subsequently replaced by the super luminova SWISS MADE dial. Enjoy your watch. The internet is full of incorrect information.

There is no such thing as a series they are just case serials,, and many serials overlap a year or so, and U serials ran well into the latter part of 1998.And again Swiss only dials ran into 2000 possibly longer with some slow sellers.
