Do add the after photos just so we can know how bad this schmoe is. Thanks for the heads up and I am sorry he took your watch backwards.

Sorry those are not indicators of a "Good"watchmaker unfortunately. The only thing people can use is online reviews and personal feedback.

Sorry this has happened. I can say that watchmakers are human and do make mistakes for certain. Heck everyone does.

Mark has had a great reputation for a long time. If this was my watch I would give him the chance to make it right.

Good point. Most people these days automatically grab a computer or phone and start ranting. A phone call would probably fix it.

Hahaha did you even read the post you linked? It seems you might have a little ineptitude in doing that correctly. I only read the first 4 of them and there was nothing negative except someone had to pay for shipping and thought it was included in the price, and Mark did not have a pressure tester over 100m.

Odd

You've been a member since 2014 but you didn't do a search here before sending it to him? I feel bad for you and wish you get it fixed right.

After not trusting my gut (his response to something I was well aware of was incorrect) and sending my 1961/2 bamboo-bezeled 1603 in for a repair (and full service), I am unfortunately now here to report the results.

Here's what I needed/ask to be done (which would've been done in any other "full service"):

::: Wants/Expectations:::

- Repair crown/stem (crown comes unscrewed from the stem when trying to set the time forward)

- New crystal (mine had been polished down to nothing, to the point that the cyclops had no real effect)

- Watch running fast (clean, lube, regulate)

- Polish/refinish case (with best judgement)

I even included a document with the watch, stating all of the above, along with what I knew about the watch and of course all my contact info.

So, he receives the watch, does the work and ships it back out to me; I received it today.

::: Results :::

- Nothing done to repair the crown. I immediately tried setting the time forward and the crown screwed right off the stem.

- I don't know how to prove it, but the new crystal is simply not a Rolex part. It's slightly domed and the cyclops nether has the full magnification I know of and is not (it's physically impossible to be made to) aligned, horizontally.

- I'll assume he at least rebuilt the movement.

- I'll say this and only this: he polished the brushed finish off the top of the lugs.

After reading all the positive 5-star Rolex-related reviews on Google and Facebook (not a member), I thought it would be nice to give this guy, who has been running a watch shop with his family for year and years, my business. I mean, he even says (paraphrasing), "People ask me why my service is so cheap. I ask them, 'Why is Rolex's so expensive?'" All I can say is that you get what you pay for. And in this case, I paid someone to use aftermarket parts on, and ruin the finish of my vintage Datejust (not to mention flat-out not repair the one thing that was actually really wrong with it).

This is my first negative online review. I don't go and bitch and moan on Amazon about silliness, I don't slay sellers on eBay or berate restaurants on Yelp...but in this case I was (almost literally) seeing red and feel that I have to let others now what I experienced.
Not in all cases but sometime expensive doesn't mean it's good either.

I looked up the review for the Sydney Rolex Service centre, they got crapped on by so many dissatisfied customers, I was hesitant to take mine to their for verification.

The Guy doesn’t have a Rolex Parts Account and the OP said the magnification was off...It’s a aftermarket EBay special.

Any genuine rolex crystal would have a genuine LEC at 6 o clock

Ahhh, ok

Acrylic crystals dont have LEC and older sapphires dont have LEC.

You do not need a parts account to get an authentic crystal. You can get them about anywhere. On older watches they are even harder to find so sometimes you do have to get them from ebay.

The op has never responded again. I would not jump to a conclusion that the magnification was off without evidence.

Simply incorrect
Rolex only supply to their own service centers and approved repairers.
Who have to account for each one.

You stated "Any genuine rolex crystal would have a genuine LEC at 6 o clock". I said that is "not true". Like you commented above this did not start until 2002. So that was not a true comment.

My comment is correct. Some approved repairs due sell parts. That is a fact. I buy them regularly.

So dis-prove it!
Show me where you can buy a GENUINE ROLEX crystal with LEC.

And when did it start?

I am thinking more and more that "you do protest too much" Why?

Makes me believe OP more and more.
Regards

Have you seen all the crystals being sold in the Rolex sales forum here? People can buy them and install them in watches. And they do not have to have a parts account with Rolex to do that.

I protest when people post incorrect info. You did that.

It proves exactly what I said, they are available without a parts account. If you scroll thru the link I posted you will see even more for sale.

It proved nothing
Actually I had no interest in this thread.
I would never use that guy to even service your SEIKO

Now, with your constant harassment, I would not recommend him to anyone

but each must make their personal decision based on this thread
