Rolex 1030 fake movement alert
Just saw a watch movement listed as a Rolex 1030 go for over $600. It is a Seagull ST 1612 with some really amateurish lettering added. For example, "Adjusted Twent" with "y Five (25) Jewels" left off. Space in the middle of the word "perpetual," some lettering not following the curvature of the bridge. I am new to Rolexes, and have been collecting on older models needing "rescue." I was surprised to find people making fakes of this old material and also surprised to find people taken in by such an obvious forgery. I guess you can't be too careful.

Is this the one: ebay item 254836719408 sold for $640 plus shipping from Bangkok?
To be fair to the seller he did say that he removed it from a watch because he didn't think it was correct, but he shouldn't have listed it as a Rolex movement as it seems he knew it was wrong. Why anybody would pay $640 for it is a mystery, never mind why all the other people bid on it as well. Sometimes it is better to just throw junk away instead of recycling it through ebay and the like to some unsuspecting buyer. |

Maybe some people think they can stick it in a case and make a profit from a buyer who doesn't look too carefully or insist on pictures of the movement.
