Both are cool watches I got the Batman then ordered a Pepsi and had a 2-year wait time.

speechless.

I've owned or owning pretty much the whole Rolex SS modern sport models (every single piece was bought from same dealer). Pepsi had the longest wait time for me.

No understanding for you from my side...

What say your friends, who are waiting for that Pepsi, about that?

From my experience, if they offer, you buy new references until you’re done. Then don’t expect any more offers after the refusal. I have seen that happen. The well is suddenly dried up.

Got about 4 years to go before I hit that goal. So I guess he takes notes and thought I said the PEPSI so 6 months go by and he calls me for the PEPSI!

I have to admit I was VERY tempted to pick it up and flip it. I have 2-3 friends who would have wanted the watch and it would have been a great way to get them one very fast. In the end though I decided not to go down this road because I want the Batman in the near future and don't want to do anything to jeopardize the relationship I have with my AD.

I gotta admit my salesman is pretty good. Almost got me to move on a $10k watch on a whim but I decided not too. Thought you guys would enjoy this story!

This reminds of the curb your enthusiasm episode where Larry donates a wing to some cancer institute but gets outshined by Ted danson who donates anonymously but he tells everyone and hence they think he is so amazing.

One of those stories.....the humble brag...??
Ok, great job, pat on the back, pay it forward, you’re the man, etc etc...
(On the flip side, missed a great opportunity to really help your friends, even by possibly bridging the relationship with your AD, guess they’re not really that good of friends).
Important point here is we all know a BLRO was turned down. It happens.

Right, but a couple of things here don't make sense:

1. You don't know until you ask
2. The time horizon for the BLNR was four years, plenty of time for the AD to get one for you, especially if it's for an occasion.
3. You know a couple of people who really want the Pepsi so you can buy it and decide if you like it and then sell it to them (for profit or not) if the watch doesn't end up working for you.

No reason NOT to get the watch given all these factors.

Yup. This is what I would have done. Not to mention you get to pocket the difference of the market values between the pepsi and BLNR. For your "troubles" lol. Also, you get the BLNR NOW, rather than some unknown date in the future. You could have gotten the watch you wanted, right away, with some extra money in your pocket (or subsidizing the BLNR, whichever way you look at it).

I don't want to make you feel bad, but life is too short to wait around and miss an opportunity.

Shocked at how divided this community is on the issue.

I applaud you letting another get that call from the AD and making their day.

With the amount of hate for flippers, the comments saying you were a fool for not doing exactly that astound me.

Heroic to some I guess..

1) you could've bought, flipped & kept the profit (pretty close to a brand new GMTII at MSRP) or bought a BLNR unworn (grey) + kept the change
2) if the AD got you a BLRO in 6 months, pretty sure he'd get you a BLNR in the next 4 years
3) could've worn BLRO until your AD got you a BLNR - still sold for a profit

As far as someone else getting the BLRO at AD - odds are they flipped it

Really enjoying these responses.

About half and half it seems. It was an easy decision for me though because I don’t resell or flip my watches. I buy them for a specific reason and to mark a milestone.

I’m especially enjoying the comments about how I should have flipped it by the same people who are livid about the supply shortage. Kind of ironic!

I'm sure you had reasons, but why didn't you just get the watch to help one of your friends who are interested in the watch?

What if you knew with certainty that the next person in line for that pepsi was a flipper? Would you still pass?

You didnt buy a watch you didnt want. This is what "normal" people do. This Rolex disparity attitude that so many feel is pathetic for a watch. Bravo OP.

What if they decide to make a Coke GMT (RONR? NRRO?) and discontinue the BLNR?

I totally agree. As a matter of fact, I passed on a BLRO a couple of weeks ago myself. I had a different reason for passing on it than the OP, but buying whatever's available at all costs just because it's there and has a crown on the dial, and constant concerns of "investment" and "resale value" just isn't something I ever want to get into. For me, watches are an interest and a passion, and if I was to start buying things I don't want just because I'm offered them, or because some guy on social media says it's "hard to get", or because I may be able to make a few hundred in a couple of years time, then that's when the enjoyment would end for me.
