Question about Explorer II 1655 dial

IMG_5934.jpg

I think that my Explorer II has a MK-2 dial, however its serial number is as high as 5,67...M (1978-1979). Does it sound right?

Any insights will be very welcome!

It does look like a Mk2. Welcome.

Yes, MK2, which are generally accepted up to 5.5 million, but like most lists, there's probably some overlap/flexibility. If it were me, I'd want to find other MK2 examples later than 5.5 million to feel more confident that the dial is original to the watch.

But ... What do you mean that the watch's "serial number is as high as 5,67...M?" Do you mean that the serial number between the lugs IS indeed 5.67 million?

No, I just meant that the serial number 5.6M is higher than the 5.5M you mentioned above.

Ah, OK, so yes, 5.6 million is outside the usual accepted serial number range for MK2 dials on 1655s, but it's fairly close. As I mentioned, if it were me, I'd be on the hunt to try to find other examples of 5.6 million MK2s. That would make me feel better.

I just found one in internet; I cannot post the link because I only have 2 posts but it's in the bobswatches website: One with a MK2 dial from 1979 with a serial number of 5.7M.

Thanks for the advice!
