Rolex Planning a BIG Baselworld 2020

Was just reading a story over at Hodinkee about Baselworld 2020 (Breitling has pulled out). This piqued my interest:

Quote:
Rolex, one of the show's two top anchor brands (with Patek Philippe) will have an even larger presence at the show. Next year Tudor will build its own stand in a new space in Hall 1.0, the main watch hall, separate from Rolex, its sister brand. Rolex and Tudor have exhibited side-by-side as part of the same giant exhibit. Rolex will expand to take over the area Tudor occupied.
Presumably they'll be using all that extra space to exhibit more than just another colour GMT on Jubilee

What do we think the chances are of updating the OP line with the 32xx series movement? Or the Explorer line? They’re still on the 31xx line as well. My guess is the OP line might be the last to get that treatment? Would love to hear from more seasoned collectors/brand fans.

I doubt that their increased footprint means anything as it relates to what they release. Didn’t Breitling just pull out as well? They need their remaining tenants to take up more space or the exhibit hall will look too empty. At some point it might be only Rolex and Tudor presenting at Baselworld.

Lesson learned, Breitling. Never pull out.

They need the extra space to display all the new Datejust dials

J/K

I would be surprised if they didn't update the Sub next year. It is one of their icons, and ready for the new movement.

However, I would also be surprised if they did change the Sub's case much. That watch has always been the fraternal twin of the GMT, and they are using the standard maxi case for that. I doubt they will make the Sub bigger, the SD43 took that role.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned previously but 2020 is actually a 100 year anniversary for Rolex.. In 1919 Hans Wildorf split up ‘Wilsdorf & Davis Rolex Watch Company’ in England due to an increase in import duties and moved the company to Geneva, Switzerland with his wife. In 1920, after Wilsdorf had detached himself from his incompatible partner Davis, the company was renamed as ‘Montres Rolex SA’. (In 1925 the 5 pointed crown brand logo was born). So I’d expect that Rolex will make Basel 2020 a little special! It will officially be 100 years since the birth of the company we know and love today! The rest they say is history...

Pointless since there will still be nothing for the average buyer to see at an AD

My fingers are crossed for a 50mm Yachmaster III with a much bolder bezel font (and no date).

I don't understand why so many people are banging on about new movements every day.
The 31 series is perfectly adequate, tried and tested.
1 extra day of power reserve means nothing when you are wearing the watch daily.
If you like Rolex, just buy one and don't worry about insignificant details.

New exhibit will be empty cases with projected video of poor schmucks walking in to ADs to ask for SS sports watches only to be laughed at

You guys are hoping for a miracle.

Rolex wont do squat. You want a new sub? Keep waiting until it is so apparent even clymer starts clamoring for one in 39 mm.

The 1500 series movements were perfectly adequate too!

......irrespective of what Rolex release should it be for 100years or whatever, is all the hype and grief over lists likely to change?
