Tourneau is going away?

I got an interesting email the other day asking my opinion on the fact that Tourneau is slowly going to be rebranded with the eventuality of the Tourneau brand permanently going away. the survey was loaded with subject/opinions of service and changes including the eventual new branding.

anyone else do this survey?

IMHO WoS needs to DUMP the Tourneau name ASAP. Tourneau's reputation is horrible, whereas WoS has an excellent reputation and always happy to purchase from them, and their American sister company Mayors Jewellers.

How can WoS control what Bucherer Group does?

IDK, I've had great Tourneau experiences. Whereas I was told by a WoS employee that I'd need to buy a Patek to get a ND sub.

Got the email as well. Not surprised that Bucherer Group is rebranding the Tourneau stores and probably a smart move given the "mixed" experience a lot of customers have had with them. That point was clearly evident in the initial press release announcing the acquisition. Gives BG a beachhead in the United States while also creating an opportunity to reset relationships with some of the frustrated customers.

While I've had my share of "not-so-great" experiences at Tourneau over the years, I can't blame them given the obvious challenges surrounding their business (e.g., Rolex shortages, rise of e-commerce, commodization of brands, difficulty staffing locations, etc.). That doesn't make up for all the shortcomings but at least explains a great deal...I mean even local mom and pop ADs can be a pain in neck to deal with more often than not.

And for those that think the Rolex dealers are making money hand over fist here's a few numbers for reference. Just for starters, it took Leonard Green (Tourneau's private equity owner) about 1.5 years to sell the business after owning the asset for a full 12 years...usually it takes 1/2 to 2/3 that amount of time to close a deal. Over that period of ownership, EBITDA (a rough proxy for cash flow) basically stayed the same at ~$25mm USD. Hard to see how LG didn't lose its shirt in this deal...maybe that's karmic justice for poor service over the years.

The Watches of Switzerland group is not Bucherer. Bucherer bought Tourneau. WoS is a rival European retail group that bought Mayors and have expanded into NYC and Las Vegas

Agree with this completely. Over the years I've heard far more bad than good about the brand. Hopefully this strategic inflection point gets leveraged properly and they can make them better.

I don't think I'm on their email list.

And never gotten Christmas card. But agree Tourneau needs a rebranding.

They're going to be renamed Bucherer. Watches of Switzerland is an entire different chain and ownership

Bad news for those big spending histories at "Tourneau" lots of staff and management has already been purged. They have improved quite a bit on the customer service side from what I've seen. I can see Bucherer trying to attract new customers at the expense of some of the older ones

They need to change the culture, otherwise they are just going to damage their good name. I would change the culture first, and that does not appear to have been done yet so good luck....

Bucherer makes attractive watches, but to date, they have little footprint in the US. Perhaps this Tourneau transaction will help.

That is sure a big bummer for many loyal customers.

Tourneau is going away.

Interesting because I always got that "go away" vibe when in their stores. Of course a lot of watch stores seem to operate that way.

I wonder why higher end stores employees feel the need to "qualify" people so much when in fact the employees could rarely afford to buy their own products.

Waiters can be like that a lot too. Snooty always seemed like a counter productive sales approach.

Always seemed weird.
