Sorry to say but full service is a must the shards are so small that they always go throughout the calendar window or hand hole, I have never taken one apart with a broken sapphire crystal that didn't have shards floating around underneath. Rikki

It happened to my 18 month-old Explorer. I avoided the full service and just had the glass replaced by the local watchmaker. It does not have the lazer etched crown, but I'll have it replaced in 2 or 3 years when it is time for service. The watch works great. I think the only risk in that situation is pieces of broken glass going where they are not supposed to. The chock itself cannot be an issue. It is a Rolex.

Great news the quote arrived back.

1) Braclet scratched some wear
2) Case scratched / marked
3) Glass Broken
4) Specks on dial
5) Bezel Marked / Dented
6) Button Bruised.

Options: Full service £283.33 Glass £63.51 Crown £35.14
Total £381/98 VAT £76.40

TOTAL: £458.38

There is an option to replace the solid gold white bezel for £972.97 but I dont think it was THAT badly damaged. Put it this way... In the photos I cant see any damage.

SO I will be deleting that option.

Just had a call from Rolex (WITHIN THE HOUR!!)

"So sorry this is totally our fault. We will have to send it back to the repair shop to have the new white gold bezel taken off and your old white gold bezel put back on"

She went on..

"But that does mean the watch will have to be totally recalibrated again and so of course that will take some time"

Not sure what I can do really. But it looks like a longer wait....

She did go on to say

"Am really sorry. Its the new paperwork by Rolex that we are trying to get used to an when I recieved it then I just told the workshop to do everything"

GRRRRR

Have to agree unless the mean diamond cut bezel, and why would a watch need to be re-calibrated just for putting a bezel on and off.

Why a fluted diamond bezel?

BECAUSE IT LOOKS NICE !!!!

This is a photo of the actual watch a day or so after I got it...

Exactly.. It is painful. But I guess I have to be patient about the new delivery date.

I know they SAY the bezel is "marked / Dented" but I cant really believe it would be that bad.

Rolex really need to make thier paper work much clearer. If the girl handling the reciept and options cant work it out then it reflects bad on Rolex.

They need a clear "opt in" or "Opt out" section for this sort of extra.

My advice to anyone who is sending a watch back and it has a multiple choice section then you physically write on their paperwork "NOT REQUIRED" and cross out the section with pen.

This will save any confusion their end (as has happened in this case)

But also if there is a dispute there can be no doubt from reading the paperwork.

Put it this way all that girl had to do to cover her mistake was to put an [X] in the box herself. But thankfully the staff at Rolex are ethical and so I am spared a £1000 error.

So if there is any doubt delete the words in pen, and write something like "Optional Bezel is NOT REQUIRED" This will save them mistakes. At best it will save you time and at worst it will save you money. I now have to wait longer for my return - Its been two months. But I wonder if there will be a gesture from Rolex - (Probably not!!)

Mistakes happen. One of the best tint shops in the country damaged my BMW last week. Nothing too major but when I called them to complain they owned up to it right then and there. Needless to say honesty will keep me coming back for life.

^^ Maybe you'll get the bezel replaced for free? Wishful thinking?

It doesn't need to recalibrated to just change the bezel she must have meant water test which of course should be done any time a bezel is changed. Rikki

Ha, you'll get a "sorry" and that's about it. The free key chains and baseball caps aren't gonna be finding their way to your mailbox sadly

If you can source a dial yourself then this guy will fit it for you for about fifty quid.
He will also service for you, if you so want.

I don't care if it's made from the bone marrow of the Pope himself. £900 is still an absolute JOKE for what is probably about 2-3 grams of gold, which is probably less that $30 a gram on the markets.

I fully appreciate they're running a business, but that just wreaks of exploiting loyal customers imo.

And still, you paid for the labor of taking off and putting in a bezel you didn't want Rolex to touch...

The watch has been repaired / serviced. Just waiting for it to come back to me.
The issue wasnt the repair / service.

The issue was that they replaced the bezel. And I didnt want it replacing.
So they are going to put my old one back on.

Just waiting for them to call me again now...

Well since the call on Friday 17th May (Its now Wednesday 22nd) the call came from Rolex Service Centre to say the Bezel has been removed and replaced with the old (original) Bezel.

And that the goods have been dispatched for delivery on Friday 24th May.

So a weeks delay not months of delay.

I did ask if there was going to be anything extra.

She just laughed... And said "I did say I am sorry"

I think I am supposed to accept the apology. Oh well at least I will have my watch back in 2 days time.
