Any insight on how AD's are picked on their supply

Yes I know that doesn't make sense, I will explain further. Im currently living in Florida but my go to AD is in Oklahoma. The owner of the establishment spoke to me earlier in the month and told me that they would have my watch (Kermit) in before the end of the year. They don't have any specific date on arrival though. The store specializes in diamonds more than rolex I would say. So my question is does anyone know if they are put in the bottom of the list as when they will get their new releases, or is it like a lottery pick? Reason I'm asking is that I'm very anxious and want what I want yesterday.

If you were that anxious, you’d have gone grey yesterday and had it today.

No idea how Rolex decides how they allocate their stock to ADs.

Very general but there are 3-4 tiers of dealers in the US. Top tier like mine is supposed to have a “stock” level of 275 pieces. They get a lot of all variations including the allocation models. Lesser tiers get less but it would appear that lower level dealers are systematically being phased out.
It is also my belief from experience that they know what to expect yearly but not when exactly.

My post was tongue in cheek. I wouldn’t go gray if an AD told me I was getting something I wanted by EOY.

This would make sense to me - the yearly part.

My understanding is that the Rolex Boutique in NYC (5th ave) gets the largest in the country, which is not a surprise

Larger global/national chains in key cities get large supply as well.

Then i think it works it way down to regional and local and mom/pop depending on city.

As to exact numbers no one knows - but easiest model would be "follow the money"

I’d have to agree. This makes the most sense

We know this all too well in Canada. My mom and pop AD has literally zero stock right now.

I'd say most ADs depend on jewelry and diamonds to stay in business. It's sounds like you'll be getting a call, sit tight thats not long at all. My smaller AD always comes through for me as opposed to the larger boutique who gets more inventory I'm sure but they will never give me another shot at seeing anything after I bought my first purchase there, a 114060 in nov'17, due to the shortage I've become a small fish in a huge pond. Actually a minnow in the middle of the pacific ocean when it comes to the Rolex counter..

What brucethemanlee said.

My AD is one of the largest/most successful in the SW U.S.
They seem to be able to get a large stock very often, and it does not hurt that the owner is quite good friends with U.S. Rolex management.

I looked at the 2 Skydwellers he had, both gold pieces that looked like something I would never wear. I politely declined and left.

Yup.

It’s unbelievable so many people are just blindly believing whats SALESmen and SALESwomen are dishing out. They’ll straight up lie to your face ladies and gents, and not blink twice. Granted not every SA is like this but many are. Get with the program and stop having such blind faith.

Whats even more hilarious is these ‘how should I thank my AD threads’ when in reality said individual probably wasn’t even the first pick for the allocation anyways. Some of these thought processes are beyond me.

I have heard from a couple of sources that the three highest volume dealers in the US are NYC 5th Ave, Geary’s Santa Monica Boutique, and Deutsch’s Houston Boutique. Going on your theory of “follow the money” it’s quite believable. All three get hefty support from not only local wealth but also steady tourist/International traffic.

Can only say good things about Geary's in Santa Monica. Bought a Bluesey on a walk-in last year with no prior purchase history and the manager was incredibly nice. Currently waiting for a Pepsi and/or Batman.

My local mom and pop AD tells me they don’t get any SS sport models at all.

They can only get SS Datejusts.

I took that as I am not getting anything at all from them.

You should have bought it, sold it, then get the Daytona! Some Skydwellers can get close to AD price on the grey market.

I think I’ll take a little drive to Geary’s. Haven’t been to Santa Monica since the riots a few months ago. Thanks for the 411.
