WG scratch magnet

Just curious if other 5524g or WG owners get this many scratches so quickly. I’m pretty careful with my watches, but this thing gets scratched just looking at it! Does the R show scratches just as easily?

Not looking to polish, but I saw a 2 year old 5524g at my AD and it looked dull with all the scratches and would probably get it polished at that point. Mine still shines pretty well.

The Copper in rose gold makes it tougher than white gold or yellow gold for that matter.

My Smurf gets scratched but I don't even notice. I don't know that WG scratches easier than SS, all my watches get scratched. I guess I am missing that part of the brain that cares. I'm disabled in that way.

From what I've seen on all your posts , you haven't taken the watch off since you have had it ,

Congrats shows you love it

I'm more precious of my PM pieces , but SS anything goes

Absolutely love it and definitely my daily, scratches be damned! Again, not complaining, I am just curious as it’s my only PM watch. My AP Diver looks brand new but wear that mostly without sleeves. Shirt/Sweater/Jacket cuffs seem to eat the 5524 polished bezel.

Wow. I am contemplating 5524g as my next watch and was planning to wear it daily, not sure now :-) I am also curious what other owners say.

I had both versions , 5524G and now 5524R. Neither of them will take the place of a Rolex that you can beat everyday. But 5524R is harder to scratch than the G version, which in a way kind of sucks because the white gold has more the look of a daily wear than the R.

Had wg Daytona and 5524
Yup, do pick up scratches. Fairly evenly, 18ct wg isn't stainless steel

But having said that, all my stainless steel watches are scratched too

Don't focus on them. All easily buffed to perfection in service

I wouldn’t be turned off by these pics, they are close up at max zoom on my iPhone XS phone. Under normal conditions it shines like new. I am very careful and attentive with my watches and other luxury goods but agree these add character to the 5524.

That bezel design does not help with avoiding scratching. In PM a step down or concave type bezel works the best. Watches, also, are big these days and that being said, they will brush against things as they are the first thing touched.

Now I feel like I’m a bad owner of such a beautiful piece

If you think mine was bad, this was the watch I tried on at the AD when I first saw it in the flesh, it turned me off at first but it shows the experience this watch has had!

I had my WG 5524 for almost two years and wore it a lot and it didn’t have any scratches, maybe just a few hairlines on the bezel but it’s easily touched up with a cape cod cloth. Had the RG for five months and it looks new. What are you guys doing?

I think adding a SS variant of this watch to the 5524 line up will be great.

Or is that the 5990?

Yeah, but I think both the 5164 and 5990 serve that target group already. But still, adding a SS to the 5524 will be fun.

^^^Same with me. In my case it’s my wg Daytona. Scratches happen. That’s life.

I definitely think sleeves do a number on this thing as I’m normally wearing this thing with some sort of sleeve. I had only a few hairlines for a number of months but after one weekend in the chilly Midwest, I came home and noticed the majority of these. I was wearing the knit sweatshirt below and think it rubbed it raw on the 12 and 6 o’clock sides of the bezel. After that, I haven’t paid much attention to it. Mine is only noticeable under light and up close, it still shines and glimmers. The one at the AD, it was almost brushed finish!

A watch that looks like it worn, looks like it was loved. and enjoyed and gave the owner a stress free happy time on the wrist ! Btw what scratches 18k will usually scratch ss except the tiny hair lines you get from clothes.

I’m having a hard time buying this. As someone with 2 degrees in metallurgy, a fabric is not going to cause scratches that deep in ANY metal. Butter sure, metal no. Many of those look deep enough to feel with your fingernail. Were you wearing bracelets too?
