How to get into Patek?

Hello, have been a long time Rolex fan but wanting to try out Patek and VC. The AD I go to doesn’t carry either brand so I have to build a relationship with one that does. Anyone know what’s a piece I can start with to build the relationship or are they all hard to get?

I don’t have a Patek but I did go to an AD here in NYC and was able to find mutiple pieces in the store. But to answer your question, just go to an AD in your area and see what they have.

When I went there was a 5496R, 5205G, 5396R and a few Calatravas to name a few.

Be genuine. Follow what you love.

With Patek, you can try with the Calatrava, Golden Elipse and some from the Complication collection. If you buy women watches (outside Nautilus and Aquanaut), it is always very appreciated. ;)

Patek is known for their complicated watches and their dress watches, just like Rolex is known for their sturdy Sports watches.

Look at some Patek watches with complications (AC, PC, WT, travel time, etc) and their elegant Calatravas. That would be a nice start when approaching a new Patek AD.

You might be out of luck at this point. Depends on the AD but lots are only getting pieces long spoken for. They wont even take names on Nautilus or Aquanaut anymore since they don't want people to get a false hope of ever getting one. Not being negative just what I've seen. The market is insane right now. Same goes for AP

Depends what you are after. If you are trying to go for a sports model, you'll have better luck getting a hard to get Rolex instead.

If you are going for what Patek or VC are known for (complication watches) most could be had a reasonable timeframe. Prices may be firm nowadays though.

I chose to go with a Calatrava because I liked the spare elegant Roman dial motif and classic hobnail bezel.

Which AD is this? I've been looking for a 5205G, would be nice to stop in and pick up.

It’s WoS but that was since late 2019.

Tried the 5205G, while it’s beautiful, with good size and fits nicely on the wrist, personally I just found the bezel height to be not as elegant. Where it tapers from the bezel towars the glass.

I'm trying to get my first Patek as well.
I've some history with the place I'm working with, I spent about 20K in jewels over the past two years... and I dared to express my interest for a steel 5167.

The feeling is that it will never happen or, if there is a remote possibility, it will take a lot of time. I guess getting some jewels from the place could improve your position, but in general it seems very challenging.
Definitely more challenging than getting a Rolex.

I'm not sure there is any other way other than playing the game of spending money, keep checking in and waiting patiently.
Unfortunately this seems to be the situation for any hard to get watch, Patek included :(
