New original dome style crystal for Explorer 1016

Pleased to report that the aftermarket DOMED crystal as supplied from Michael Young, Hong Kong has been fitted and looks perfect.
Excellent sales service and via Fedex arrived in UK under the 7days.
Approx £75 door to door but as Rolex don’t supply I think it was well worth the effort and cost for this superb reference.

May I ask your reasons for wanting a domed crystal?
Did this watch originally have a domed crystal when it was produced?

Looks interesting

Yes, the Rolex service crystal is flatter.
This one from MY is like the original.

Nice that you could keep it more in line with its original configuration.

It’s so good that there are people out there wanting to preserve the heritage of the brand.
What a shame it’s left to the “little” people around the world .
They must be heralded for their motivation which isn’t always £$€¥ as their main objective.
Three cheers!!!

Here’s some comparison to RSC replacement ...less dome and makes the face look slightly bigger. Personal preference - but I’ve always liked the original domes.

In many ways Rolex never stopped improving the strength of their acrylic crystals.

Later overhauls did get a flatter arc - but the rim is much thicker to ward off the typical hazards that can crack a thinner rim.

The aftermarket one does look nice but I believe the original crystals didn’t come to such a peaked dome.

I honestly think it’s identical.
The photo was taken to exaggerate the dome but really they are the same profile.
MY and Classicwatches in HK are remarkable.

I have the same crystal on my 1016 and it is very very close to the original domes. I would’ve rather kept my cracked domed crystal than install a flat RSC crystal. Hands down, this is the best option in my opinion, and yes, I mean even over a genuine flat RSC crystal. The flat crystal does the watch no favors in the looks department.

I agree on looks...been trying to source a tropic 22 but might opt for the after market if others have had good luck with it as it’s close to the original
