Hmmm..... that could depend on where you live. The image below might be a bit hard to read, but its the last page of the 2009 Rolex Canada price list. The last sentence says "The retail prices are suggestions only, jewelers may sell for less"
YMMV

I've seen both black and white dial SS in the window display of my local AD. They sat there for weeks. It seems like the people who actually own a Daytona gets offended in larger extent when someone here point out the fact that they are available.

Easy to find by me.
Never had a problem tracking one down at an AD locally.

I've never heard of this before but I'm guessing they have you buy pre owned first before new. Not sure just guessing.

Here in Chicago you can find them at ADs if you have the right influence. They are usually sitting in the back room for their VIP customers that have bought a lot of watches from them.
If anyone wants to pay me $100, I'll create the introduction to the right salesperson at an Illinois based AD so you can walk out today (at retail) with your brand new SS Daytona. (the one they have as of 2/25 is white dial and not on display) |

6 years ago when I got my two tone tahitian dial daytona, I had my name on several lists to buy a SS black dial. They were selling for 6k MSRP back then and the used market was asking 10k for them. I was being told that their waiting lists was more than 1 year long and they only put you on the top of the lists if you buy over 100k in jewelry from them.
I hear that this demand has changed now, but I am no longer in the market for one. Maybe the myth still holds. |

Nov. 2011 I just walked into a new to me AD and asked if a SS Daytona was available. Was told they just received one, a black face, my favourite, for list price (firm) plus tax.
I was told the people on the waiting list wanted the white face only. In my excitement I purcased my grail and only later found out I could have done a little bit better in the Toronto area, not a biggie and I'm happy never the less. IMHO the SS Daytona is a masterpiece and they are easy to find these days. P.S. This particular AD stated that their store was one of the top three Rolex dealers in the region and only averaged four SS Daytonas a year, never knowing weather a white or black face would come in. |

Is it the same for the Uk...?
I spent a few years looking into to it and trying to track a SS black down determined to beat the system - I wasn't ready to pay a premium on top of Retail for a new one or lots for a second hand... I didn't beat the system all that happened was retail price went from £4800 to £7500....! I put my deposit down for a Black SS in Feb 2011 at my local AD, got a call about five months later saying do you still want one... or would you consider white... I said I wanted black - SS Black finally arrived in late October 2011 same year.... I was also told I was one of the last customers they have taken a deposit from as they weren't going to do that any longer... I either got one at the top of the market or in a few years a new SS will be retailing at £10,000 Who knows......! |

Daytona's are available from grey dealers and online very easily. Finding one in the UK or EU or Australia at an AD is nigh on impossible. Please know what you are saying

Now whether they have them in their SAFE is another matter, but only VIPs or regular customers get them.

Never seen one in a window in the UK, but have seen two-tone, gold etc. The worst thing I ever did was flipping a black dial one for £1k profit.
BTW, how much is a used Daytona is the USA? Walked passed a shop in London today and a s/s white dial was up for £7k. RAZZ |

Many ADs will only sell you an SS Daytona if you're a previous customer of theirs (though they'll be happy to sell you a TT or white gold one.) |

Here in Los Angeles, you will not see a single SS Daytona in the display. They will not sell it to you even if you walked in and asked. But they have TT and gold ones all the time.
