I think OP should sit on his hands for a while, spend some more time on here and do a bit of research. No one in their right mind would consider paying those prices from a 'reputable' dealer for second hand (or most likely grey in the case of the BLNR). 'Reputable', my arse.

OP, go visit a couple of ADs and try a shed load of watches on and see what sings to you. If you can't find what you want locally, ring around a few dealers within an acceptable radius to where you live and if they have what you want, go make a day of it.

For your first Rolex, go to an AD and enjoy the experience of a brand-spanking new watch, safe in the knowledge that you're not getting taken for a ride.

To those who say a watch is not an investment, well, in the case of some Rolex references I respectfully disagree. A ten year old Submariner in mint condition will sell for more now than its MSRP was when brand new. Ok, so you won't retire on it but it's increased in value. However small, it's still an investment

It would be between the sub and the GMT LN for me. So, just pick the one you like the best.

you are spending a lot of money, and you want to know that you are not throwing it down a hole.

as much as everyone here will say "buy what you like", if the watches lost 75% of their value upon purchase, many would not be making that purchase.

would some? of course...but many would not.

that all said, the 114060 will IMHO likely be the most in demand for the longest amount of time.

you will not make money on it, or any of them, but it is unlikely you will loose a lot either.

If this was true there wouldn't be Omega owners, would there?

On reflection - that makes perfect sense. Thank you

The issue is, every shop I am going in to is out of stock with nothing for weeks and a potential price rise they all keep talking about.

Any of the 3 you mention are great watches, but at the price listed I would source a brand new one from an AD and benefit from having your name on the card and a 5 year warranty. I think if you do your home work all three should be readily available within a couple of weeks.

Cheers Steve. I just hope the price does not increase during that time.

One may be fortunate enough to buy a new watch that increases in value over time, but it's difficult to predict, and the intent should still be to simply buy what you like and want to wear. For all we know, nobody will even want these things in 50 years.

I'm in the uk as well and so I know we don't have the good old TRF trusted sellers that our US guys have
So, based on the quoted prices, I would agree with others and say buy new from an AD. For the sake of £100 on a £4-£5k watch you'd be silly to buy used. Especially if you are a nervous buyer, as per your thread title.

Based on watches alone, I had narrowed down to the same choice for my 40th. I bought the black GMT and sometimes regret it and wish I'd bought the BLNR. Other times I am glad I bought black bezel and value the versatility and classic looks. I still want to add a 114060 and to ably will do soon!

Last of all, to the other guys who replied, I don't think the OP ever mentioned resale value as a factor (unless I missed it). I interpreted the concern as being that he just doesn't want to get ripped off.

Appreciate that. Perhaps you know something that I dont but I have been to Rolex shops in London and all sold out of all three of those. Do you know somewhere that I can pick one up? Im happy to travel not too far but nowhere seems to have any.

Thanks

like others have said "you need to go with what you like the most",,,
After Mappin and Webb couldnt commit for even a year and said "i would be number 29 or 30 in the queue for GMT2 "batman !,,,,,
i paid £550 over list for a BLNR thats a year old in late november,,,
all the bits except for one tag,,,,,
They seem to be constantly going up at reputable used dealers,,,
and seem to be getting fewer and futher between,,,

unworn at some dealers are just under £7000 and thats not a full "set",,
best of luck with your purchase and hope your very happy with it,,

The BLNR is pretty tough to get over here but I can't stomach the premium you pay for it over retail. I have the 114060 and love it, however 4900 for a 2014 seems a little over-priced, I've seen the no-date in many AD's windows at the list of 5,000.
Would be worth spending £30 on petrol and getting a 114060 brand new from an AD rather than used for 4900.

Drop me a message if you wish and I'll let you know what AD I saw a no-date last Wednesday.

Like others have said, do lots of research and narrow your search down to one piece :)

But sure does seem to be far more Rolex enthusiastists out there.

I wonder, if Omega had a similar resale, would they be more popular?

Omega is not far from Rolex in popularity, according to Monochrome's business section.

As others have already said the RRP for a brand new GMT 2 BLNR from an AD is only £5950 so significantly cheaper than the second hand one you're looking at. Whatever "Reputable" dealer you are currently looking at are overpriced. Buy new !

You get the added benefit of peace of mind, your name on the warranty card plus the enjoyable experience of buying a brand new Rolex.

Of the 3 you've picked there is no wrong choice. IMO the Sub is the icon piece. It also depends on your lifestyle, brushed links or PCL's.

My advice is to go to your local Rolex AD and try them all on.

Looking forward to your incoming!
Yes, Subc from an AD for £5K is the best idea. A price rise in Brexit UK now is very likely so get your skates on!

Get what you like and as other have said just go to an AD and buy a new one. You may need to do a bit of phoning around to find the model you want but it will be out there. The BLNR would probably be the most difficult to find but even after the suspected price rise it will still be cheaper to buy than a used one.

SS sports models don't lose too much value compared to other brands. It's not an investment but you can wear it knowing that it'll retain a decent value.

As its your birthday you may as well get a new one and wait a little while for it on a waiting list.

I am a bit sceptical when it comes to AD's waiting lists. Many people will be on more than one waiting list and many will simply not take up the option when their turn comes. When the GMTIIC first came out I put myself on the list with a well known AD who was quoting 6-12 months. I got the call 2 weeks later. Unfortunately a 16710 had crossed my path in the meantime

Probably not going to get any/much return with any modern/currently produced piece.
Buy what you like. IMO, buy a used sub and you probably won't lose anything and you'll be able to enjoy it for years.

Wow. Not far at all.

That surprises me. And apparently I must admit, yet again, that I've got no idea what I'm talking about.

Still tho, 114060 all the way.

Black GMT. It has the classic styling of a sub without being the same watch everyone else has. I find the blue in the blnr limiting as an only watch.
