black sub or wait

I'm getting impatient waiting for a Daytona C. I went to the AD and put on a new black sub. He almost had me when he said he had a brand new one in the back. I like it a lot but my heart is set on the Daytona. Any advice on how to get over this. Buying one now and one later really isn't an option. Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

You could be waiting indefinitely for the 116500LN. I assume you are refering to the stainless steel version. Life is short get the Submariner since it is compelling and then see how life turns out.

Buy a pre-owned Sub now and save your depreciation for the DaytonaC and when the DaytonaC comes in decide at that point if you want to flip the Sub. You might find the sting from the Sub has worn off and be ready for the Daytona. They would make a great pair.

If you truly have your heart set on a Daytona, getting a Sub now will only keep you happy for a little while. Like MCO1 said, a used but clean Sub can hold you over, and you can flip it back out for a minimal loss (or maybe even a small profit) when the Daytona comes in. I love the Subs, but if it's not your final destination I think it would be a mistake to settle for a new Sub now and bork your chance to get your grail watch later. There are some nice clean Subs for sale now for ~$5000 in the classifieds here and on WatchRecon.

Buy the subc, you can easily sell it for the D500 when and if it emerges, don't leave your wrist bare.

My last one was a tt sub with a serti dial that I sold about 4 years ago when times were a little tough. So indeed it's been a while with the bare wrist.

Definitely buy a pre-owned sub and save for the Daytona if that's what you really want.

From experience if you settle for something different than what your heart is set on, what you really want will still be on your mind!

Follow your heart. A watch is an emotional decision, not a rational one. You will not be happy with less.

Get the sub now. You can always flip it later. Or you can get both :)

I'm in the exact same situation. Want the black Ceramic Daytona, but can't find one for under $17,000 anywhere. The green hulk is calling my name lately. Although I have a batman and a Cameron Deep Sea...stuck.

Honestly can't go wrong with a Sub !! It can hold you over while you wait for what your heart desires and pocket book cringes.

Pre-owned from reputable forum seller and you can't go wrong. When the right Daytona becomes available you can make the decision to to keep or sell. Never rush to a decision.

Get the sub now flip it if you have to for your Daytona when it comes. If the wait is like it is here then it might be 5 years before it comes and you might be able to swing both.

My two cents is that you take your time with the decision. Your heart's set on the Daytona - and thus it would be unlikely that the Sub would truly scratch that itch. I'd say hold out for the call - or save a little more and pay the slight premium if need be (hopefully these start to come down to earth soon).

I wouldn't recommend buying the new sub from the AD. Buy a used one as a placeholder until your Daytona comes in, and then throw your sub up for sale for the same price you bought it.

People usually say something like "If I won the lottery..." but I guess "If I was a mobster...." works okay, too.

Always wait for what you really want.

Placeholder watches rarely work.

Buy a Sub now. If it begins to bore you, you won't lose much selling it, particularly if you buy a used one. You could be waiting a long time for the Daytona.

I’m the opposite - wanted a subc no date but wanted a used good deal one- couldn’t find one for the right price. So I bought a newish 116520 Daytona to hold me over. Now I have the subc for the right price and kept the Daytona :)
