If you shatter the sapphire crystal, a complete dis-assembly with be required to remove any shards that may have gotten into the movement. This will be expensive; i.e., >$500.

On the other hand, the hesalite crystal can be replaced for <$150 including labor.
Plus it looks way way cooler

Great suggestion. I tried the 9300 and I found it too thick for me. I also tried the Speedmaster Pro 3313 movement ( 311.30.44.50.01.002) with the date. I liked that its not as thick as the 9300 version. I also liked that the WR was 100m and it was an automatic but I read about some reliability issues with the 3313 movement on WUS... I'm sure that these issues occurred rarely and have been sorted out but it was enough for me to be cautious about this movement.

Does anyone have the 311.30.44.50.01.002? Are you happy with it?

Bought a Speedmaster Pro new in 1996 and still have it although now on leather strap - picked two Rolexes also, vintage Sub and new 42mm Explorer - still regularly go back to my Speedmaster though - dead simple and dead accurate - you could not go wrong with one!

I've been wearing Rolex since 1973 and picked up a 3570.50 a few years ago. I used to think an auto with date was the basic watch for me, but now that I have several manual wind watches, I really appreciate the simplicity of a manual. Now that I have a little collection of watches, all the auto's a wound down when I switch watches, so the manuals w/o date are pretty handy.

As much as I like the Speedy, mine does not get as much wrist time as my 14060. I think the Speedy looks great when I see it here on the Forum, but it isn't as good looking or comfortable on the wrist as the Sub, IMO. I've considered trading it away but may swap dials to a panda.
