Opinion on 5170P?

Hey guys!

I’ve been thinking about acquiring a 5170P for some time.. My AD and other AD’s I’ve spoken to said it is a hard piece to get. On the other hand, I’ve spoken to grey dealers (that I trust) and they said they can get me one sealed same day for $55-60K. I’m not too familiar with the none sport models of Patek but This is a 98K retail watch.. Now I’m a bit confused, is something wrong with the 5170P?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t buy pieces for investments; but I also don’t want to lose my pants off if I ever want to trade it in. 98K —-> $55-60K is a HUGE discount..

I think very likely they have quoted you wrongly. Why not check with them again on the price.

55k? wow and id buy one for that. I skeptical. If you do the math and figure what they acquired it for since they are a business and not a charity, i would suspect that would put the cost to acquire at 45k... so only slightly more than a 5712.

Plus Patek doesnt allow sealed watches out the door anymore so i call BS on that dealers claim.

5170P is a stunning piece and one of the best in the current collection.
WF in the UK just sold one for £64.5K against a list of £73k - it was unboxed and the difference was less than the VAT saving that many buyers achieve (😥😥😥😥).

£55-65k seems to be the UK range depending on condition.

Rare? I have seen one sitting in the case.

Good? Oh yes, by far the best deal for 5170 in my opinion.

If you can acquire that watch for less than $60k, I would say you are as insulated from future price depreciation as one could be. I would consider that a great purchase price for a new 5170P.

Can you link me up with that dealer? $55-60K is about the right price for me to hop in... have to sell a kidney or two but I would make it happen.

Just as a datapoint, I bought one a little while back for $77.5k and sold it for the same once I was done having my fun with it. Given it was still like new but nonetheless it's a watch you could probably get in and out of with no loss and possibly a gain.

I would clarify with your dealer. $55-60k seems very low for the 5170p. He may be giving you a quote for the 5170g.

Wow, something is off. I can see getting it for 65 -68k but not at the price range they are telling you. Is true that is not a dress watches market currently but thats a little too much. Proceed with caution and if its true pm me please

The watch is a fantastic buy at list too.
The discounted price you've been quoted makes it an absurdly good buy....

P.S. I hate the diamonds but it's STILL a lovely watch.

there are plenty of them around at the dealers. in vienna every AD (3 of them in the city) has one. not sure though how many will be produced over time but currently they are sitting around and readily available.

Davidsw had one recently for a little over $80k USD. I am sure they willl drop to under $80k in the future, but $55k USD seems off by a lot.

wouldn't the AD lose money on this? Seems to be below dealer cost

Those are exactly my thoughts! In a weird way it’s kind of insulting to sell it for 55k.... I am waiting for them to respond back to me and I’ll keep you guys posted!

5070 was sitting in dealers when it came out too...
And then suddenly everyone went completely mad for it and the rest is history.

The watch is beautiful....but the diamonds are a huge turnoff for me. Maybe they’ll release it sans diamonds. I’m just of the opinion diamonds aren’t for men.

i thought the same thing... and then i tried it on. Im not a diamond guy at all, but these are really nice and being honest they don't even look like diamonds unless you really look hard.

Diamonds usually don't compliment a design and they overpower it. Not in this case.

Not really true actually

same for 5970s. you'd never see them in a window at an AD.
