selling to a dealer

can you get a fair price selling a vintage rolex to a dealer? are some more generous than others? is it safe to send a watch to a dealer for evaluation? thanks for any advice.

You gotta figure that they have to resell for a profit, so you'll always do better selling on your own. I would imagine that most dealers use a general value guideline, unless they specialize in a specific marque, so they would all be generally close in offers/values.

Unless you are trading for another piece, the dealer may have flexibilty to give more value towards a trade.

If you sell to a dealer you will get a wholesale price, if you sell privately you will get a retail price, so better, if you are able, to sell privately.

Kinda like trading a car in, or selling a car outright to a dealer. I would only do it if I needed cash NOW and the local pawn shop was going to give you less.
