Ok Pav, please give me $5000 as commission for finding you your next watch.

It's on his site.
Some pretty sweet watches over there...

Kyle, your commission will be 5 minutes staring at my purchase.

Nice pieces... BUT I would eliminate 3 right off the bat - No YG for me.

Only steel, platinum, and WG as a general rule for me.

Pav, do you only collect Rolexes? You could look at some of those vintage Pre-moonwatches.

That picture of JJ is freaking me out.

Pav, check out these velcro / Apollo-esque bands for your Speedy. I got one a while back:

...although the guy seems to be on holiday right now.

I know this is a novice question, but ... I understand the history of the original watch purchased and returned being labeled a "Mayer Dial", but can't find any information on why others have referred to it as a "Texas Dial" can someone please elaborate.

My understanding is that these dials were thought to originate out of Texas in the early 90's..... Texas was the dial refinishing capitol of the world in the 90's.

A degree in mechanical engineering is needed to set the time.

No thanks!

Here is a link that will give a bit more information to help the "next guy".

so i have read this thread with interest, and i also read john mayer's response. Basically, is it the consensus that the mayer dial is probably a fake? It seems like that is what the consensus is, but no one wants to come right out and say it. Sure, it is debateable, but is that the prevailing belief. By fake - I mean it was an aftermarket dial which didnt appear on the actual watch in the 70s. Whether or not rolex services the watch is not important to me - it is more important for me to know that dial is an aftermarket addition of some sort.

Your points are correct and I agree ... it does not matter if Rolex services these pieces. It's irrelevant.

I am glad a lot of TRF'ers are reading this thread and hopefully learning how to identify one of these dials. I will never get fooled again....

vwey vwey interesting, because on line, right now, i see two top vintage dealers with the watch. One has it in the "sold" section, where authenticity is listed as guaranteed. Another dealer has it up for sale. Clearly, this issue will be ongoing, but i really feel that the experience listed herein will change the perception of this watch for eternity. All from an internet forum - amazing.

I have a feeling that this dial, with all of this negative publicity, will cause the watch to devalue quickly. It is nice to see a web page on the "mayer" dial.
