Question re calibre 215ps of 5196

Hi guys, greetings from Hong Kong :) I have recently purchased my first Patek, 5196R, from my AD and am so happy to join this PP group as an owner.

From my testing of the watch so far, it runs beautifully at +1 sec for the past few days. However, I noticed that the power reserve is just approx 40 hours instead of 44 hours as stated in the manual. Is it normal from your expert opinions?

Also, happy to share a photo of the beauty as attached.

beautiful piece - huge congrats , if I had smaller wrists I'd get the platinum version but I am waiting for my 6119.

I think that’s normal. Could be that you didn’t have it 100% wound?

I have fully wind it but it demonstrated quite consistently with 40 hours so just to see if any pp/ 5196 owners have a clue about it.

No idea as to your question, but a huge congrats on the 5196R with silver dial which happens to be my favorite in-production Calatrava. Such a simple, clean, and beautiful watch! Much unlike the new 6119 which is trying too hard and includes too many design elements that don't work well combined.

Thanks! 5196 is certainly the most classic model in the lineup imo. I always wanted a watch that is distilled to a purest watch form. It is the pp that stays in a collection :)

Same PP here (and also my first and only one). I have the same experience with regards to the power reserve, i.e. not quite 44 hours tbh.

Best,

5196r is a great ref. I prefer it to the size of the 6119, but I actually like both quiet a bit. The new movement is an improvement power res and size in the 6119, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it is utilized in future references.

Best,
Glad to know people sharing the same taste of watch. So it seems the manual overstates PR for a little bit.

I have owned several watches with this caliber. My experience is all over the board. Some older ones with servicing are lucky to get 30 hours. If you're getting 40 hours that is in my view is fairly good.

30 hours is really a low PR in modern and vintage standards. Wondering if there are any known design defects.

Strangely enough, mine just showed 46 hours in latest testing concluded today. But anyway, it doesn’t matter much as I don’t mind winding this beauty every day I woke up :)
