ED White Vs. Sapphire sandwich w/ new bracelet

I'm torn between the two, obviously there's a price difference but looking past that if anyone has had the chance to wear/own both can you tell me about your experience with the pieces what you think of the two.

Price aside, it's very unlikely that your AD will offer you an ED White without prior purchase history. But if they are, why not try it out! Nothing better than experiencing it yourself!

Was happily offered one with a minimum 12 month wait here in Canada.

There’s only one place to buy the watch in Canada … I assume we are talking about the same place?

I have never done business with them, I simply made an enquiry ( over e-mail so I have never met or spoken to any SA either ) I was promptly sent over a form that I had to fill out and was told minimum 12 month wait. Which didn't really surprise me.

Now I am just more surprised that you were given a 24 month time frame and I was given a 12, albeit I was told that's the minimum with no maximum wait stated.

Makes sense.

If you visit them in person or by phone you'll likely be given a more realistic answer

This one's a question of romanticism vs rational I would say, so think you'll need to ask yourself what you value more. The mind will say that the 3861 is a superior movement when it comes to modern conveniences such as anti magnetism and chronometer accuracy, but the heart will say 321 all day long for the authenticity and pure essence of the Speedmaster. The price difference aside, personally had this same decision to make and chose the 321. I knew I would always be envious of it if I didn't buy it, and who knows how long Omega will produce the 321 for (you can guarantee the 3861 will exist and have future iterations).

I like the 1861/1863 bracelet better than the new one but the 321 bracelet is better than both. One can rationalize that the new Co-Axial Speedmaster is the best Speedmaster, as it's the most accurate, but I'd take an 1863 and a 321 over it. I own the former and have the latter on order with no regrets.

Good luck getting the 321. My boutique stopped taking orders over a year ago and even before then you had to be a good customer to get on the list with a full deposit.

I own the latter and not carried away by 321.
You must really be into space program to spend $14k on the watch from sixties.
Go 3861.

Do ADs even get Ed whites? Thought boutique only.

Boutique only, in Canada at least. I can't speak for the rest of the world.

This

Additionally, I'd be interest to know if this will be your first Speedmaster?

ED White Vs. Sapphire sandwich w/ new bracelet

The new bracelet on the 3861 is incredible. It's jubilee comfortable and conforms to the wrist with no slip. The Ed White bracelet appears to be the same as the aqua terra.

The movement finish on the 3861 is prettier than it should be at the price point. I'm always impressed with mine when I turn it over. There's even base plate finish under the free sprung balance and mass. Even most A Lange are just stamped
/ unfinished metal under there.

This is actually my second Speedmaster. My first was a FOIS I got in 2012 when it first came out, but I never quite fell in love with it. Plus it has a solid caseback and I want to be able to see the movement. I sold it soon after and took a long break from Speedmasters until the 3861 was released, as there were rumors for a long time of an updated Speedmaster and movement. Then Omega threw a curve ball and announced the resurrection of the 321 Caliber, and I knew I had to have it! I'm going to stick with the Ed White 321 permanently in my collection.

The 321EW is a most awesome reference. I have three Speedmasters (2 "pro" + 321) but if I could only keep one, it would be the 321

EDIT
My bad - the question regarding "1st Speedmaster" was meant for the OP. While the 321EW makes for a great introduction to the Speedmaster, the 3861 "Professional" might make more sense if it's the OP's first Speedmaster
